what do you think of the arcs so far in DB/Z? how would you stack the cell saga against the rest?

The Android Saga has been great but Cell has frequently been one of the worst parts of it, so it's a weird dichotomy. The Piccolo arc at the end of the original Dragon Ball might be the best part of the series.

All the Z Fighters coming together to help Gohan finish the fight was fantastic.

Father-Son Kamehameha is really good.

Yeah, the conclusion to that fight is a top 3 scene in the series

also Cell is great

like, he doesnt really have much backstory or reason to exist, but perfect cell is such a smarmy fuck and I love it

So, I had a dream yesterday (the day before? Monday-into-Tuesday) that SBAllen teased a new games contest on Board 8 but for whatever reason he skipped nomination phase and just created the bracket himself.

I know this because I scooped him and the board in his teaser topic because apparently if you changed the poll number in the URL to a future date where this contest would happen it would display the bracket.

It was a games contest. I want to say it as an implied two-parter because I think it was labelled as like 16-bit and earlier (the dreaded sorted by generations return) and the bracket design was... it was something (and should have instantly alerted me this was a dream if the absurdity that I was the first person to notice the bracket didn't.) Like there were byes and double-byes but they weren't placed logically at all, so like the 1v8 would occur in the first round but like the 3 had a bye it was crazy. All the early matches seemed super easy too because I guess my dream brainpower couldn't create good matchups. Think LoZ was a 3 seed too which was lol.

it started monday (which was also the next day somehow) so get hype.

At this point a randomized chaotic bracket wouldn't be terrible!

All sidequests beated in Ys VIII now. Coming up on the end.

And now all treasures get and I got 100% completion on the map aw yeah

Jack is such a good character.

Ys VIII beated! Fun game. Seiren turned out to be a pretty cool location, and the cast was generally a lot of fun. Dana is a really great character.

Hell yeah. Definitely a surprisingly great experience all around. Basically everything about it is well done, and Dana rules.

Wow, you keep playing some of my favorite games!

I love how Will of the Wisps gives you a ton of the powers from the first game in the first few hours. It feels like you're constantly getting something new, and every area feels fresh.

Yeah, I was glad to see they gave me a new attack power pretty much right away.

I also decided to start NEO: The World Ends With You. I figured I'd go back and forth between a story heavy game and a gameplay focused one.

Definitely getting some Persona 5 vibes so far, which makes sense, all things considered. Minamimoto is still the best.

So do I, but my backlog is insurmountable and it's probably losing to a number of other games on top of that!

It's funny, I played a lot of games last year, but my backlog didn't really shrink much. The more games you play, the more games you find to play...

Well, I'd like to get to some Tales games but I know it's going to suck up a lot of my time and I've been really wanting to play TWEWY2, so I figured I should get it done first!

I still need to play Tales of Arise. >_>

what have you been playing

Personally, I played through Returnal, dropped Monster Hunter World after a couple hours, and now I'm playing AI: Somnium Files, which has me marveling at the non-garbage graphics/presentation after playing ZTD relatively recently.

I've just never had any interest in the Somnium Files despite being a fan of Zero Escape. The premise and other stuff I read about it didn't really appeal to me, but now it's getting a sequel. Maybe I should check it out one of these days.

I was deciding between AI and a couple other games - the sequel coming out this year broke the tie for me. So far, I'm a few hours in, and it's a lot more tame than any of the Zero Escape games? Like so far it's a regular murder mystery with some light sci-fi elements. It's consistent and good so far though, with the best part being how you can inspect everything in every location and often get humorous comments out of it. Feels like they do this more than they did in the ZE games. I assume it'll get more out there eventually, but we'll see.

what have you been playing

Right now I'm working on Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Fire Emblem Heroes. FEH is doing its two yearly voting events right now and it takes up a lot of time trying to figure out how things will go and going through online discussions. I keep getting side tracked for hours in Pokemon Legends so who knows when I'll be done that. My starter is like 20 levels higher than my most recent story opponent and I recently caught a Pokemon 10 levels higher than my starter...

In regards to the FEH voting contest, right now people are mad that people are voting for Edelgard.

Edelgard being simultaneously loved and hated is a completely unsurprising development, and I think it's evidence that Three Houses did its job!

So I started watching Attack on Titan finally. (the first season, that is.)

I don't have much to say so far, but I feel like this is going to be one of those shows where it's well-made but the writing philosophy doesn't mesh with me at all.
