Nope! We got ORAS a year later and then they started working on Gen 7

I played the first 5 Gens, and Gen 1 is maybe my favorite.

Surprised HGSS isn't running away with this.

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum for me. Someday I'll play the remake of it, really liked HG/SS despite not caring for Gold/Silver much so imagining for a game I liked it would be super good

Arceus is new and needs some time to settle before we ask people how they think it stands up to the rest of the series.

Black/White 1-2 are by far the best Pokmon games even though I love ORAS which Id probably give third to. ORAS is the only post BW1-2 game that has really been great sadly.

Johto has the best pokes AND best music. All I care about.

some of the best starters, best towns, easily the best legendaries, love the music, love that there's two distinct villainous teams instead of just the usual one (even if they're super dumb). Also loved the introduction of the pageant-type contests and a lot of the new pokemon (Aron still gets my vote for cutest in the entire series)

Gen 1. Has the best rival, has Missingno., and is generally way lower on dumb stuff like friendship or held item evolution. And if I wanted the QoL upgrades and additional content enough to sacrifice Missingno., there's a remake available.
Maybe if I'd actually played the remakes, Emerald/Platinum, or gotten to what seems to be a fan favorite with Gen 5 I'd feel differently but I was already tried of this franchise's single-player by Diamond so yeah.

SwSh, but I don't care about the story part in these games at all. Just gimme post-game and online.

Gen IV has the best OST though

Gen V is my favourite, though HGSS make it a good challenge.

A few years ago I would have said Gen II but a replay really highlighted everything wrong with them. But Johto is still my favorite region and introduced my overall favorite set of Pokemon, so maybe at this point it could be HGSS?

I was baffled when even HGSS didnt fix the awful post Champion stuff the original GS had. Oh boy who wants to run into lv10 wild Pokmon in Kanto after becoming Champion.

What would you even call the X/Y remakes? X/Y Squared?

Johto games > Unova > Sinnoh (exclusively on the strength of Platinum) > Hoenn > Kanto > Kalos

Never played Gen 7 or 8.

Platinum is the one that got me back in and feels the most fun
Silver/Gold is the most nostalgic

Then it would go Black/White > Red/Blue > Ruby/Sapphire > Sun/Moon > Sword/Shield > XY

Ive played pretty much every Pokmon game that has ever existed, and RBY are still my favorites. In fact, I typically play through one of them at least once a year. They never stop being fun to me, where other generations rarely get me to do a replay outside of the initial playthroughs.

X/Y > The originals > ORAS > The boring generation 2.

Generation 2 bored me to death back in the day, and Pokemon was a kiddy game anyway that deserved to lose to THE REAL RPG Xenogears.

I tried to get back into the series when ORAS were released, but that game had to many water HMs IMO.

I'm now a youtuber addicts who loves video games so it's impossible to not get recommended a lot of Pokemon videos, and I found X and Y really cheap so I bought them and completed the KALOS Pokedex. Easily the most enjoyable game I've played but I can see why fans hate it.

Last year I finally got my hand to on "the best game in the series" aka Soul Silver, and yeah Gen 2 is just a more boring gen 1 IMO.

BW2 have PWT which might be the best post-game facility fanservice wise.

Gimme an X/Y remake with SwSh's QOL improvements and an actual postgame and that would be top.

Side note: I had no idea until recently that Gen 5 got a lot of backlash when it first came out. Those were good games.

It's still RBY, but BW and now Arceus are both very close.

I mean, at least the trainers leveled up with you this time. Gen II Kanto is filled with trainers with levels in mid-30s, aside from the Gym Leaders.

GSC, but RSE is my most re-played

HGSS would be the best by an absolute mile if the level curve wasn't hideous. As it is, it's pretty close between HGSS/BW2/Platinum for the best one, although I voted Platinum just because the weather stuff made Gen 5 competitive miserable and the Battle Frontier is my favourite postgame facility. FRLG/Emerald are very close behind, but the Pokmon choice is a bit too limited, a lot of moves don't exist, and neither does the physical/special split, both of which make a lot of types and mons near-useless.
