How is having an older sibling looking after younger siblings a crime again?

Omg that is so wild I used to babysit OTHER people's kids alone when I was 13-15.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Sounds like the other mom is a fucking bitch if she just randomly calls the cops like that.

I legitimately do not understand how people are supposed to have kids when childcare is prohibitively expensive and alternatives get demonized.

The expectation is extended family, like the rest of the world that isn't above having good family dynamics.

When I was 2, I was watching my baby brother (2 years younger than me) when my finger got caught in a door and chopped off. Luckily the neighbors were home and brought me to the hospital where it was re-attached.

We started moving every 3 months after that.

When I was around 4 or 5 I was watching my brother in Vermont and we sleighed down a hill right into a car that was parked at the bottom. Luckily we were brought to the hospital and survived.

Not much longer after that I was watching my brother and created a game that involved jumping over a chair. He fell and bashed his head into the TV.

There were other incedents as well, including me getting run over by a car in Arizona (And then backed up over my legs to see what he hit).

There are reasons why you probably shouldn't have kids under the age of 10 babysit lol....Somehow though both me and my brother actually survived all that. He did eventually die at 40, but it wasn't my fault (somehow!!).

I want to say fuck that neighbor, but I need a little more context.

I find the situation to be problematic. 14 is old enough to babysit and it sounds like she has great credentials to be a baby sitter, but the problem comes in with her being in school and having 4 kids to pay attention to. That is a lot of different places her attention needs to be split over a long period of time.

I try not to. It makes it really hard to vote. Are there any politicians that will actually fight for better child care and sick leave?

And if the 4 year old has a history of wandering that gives more reason to why the daughter should not have been babysitting them for a full work day while she is also trying to pay attention to her classes.

Quite honestly it is the 14 year old that is the victim in all this. Watching the kids for an hour while the mom goes grocery shopping is one thing. Being a back up day care while simultaneously attending her schooling is another thing entirely and is unfair to her.

I dont think he was wandering around alone. He was wandering around with his friends, who happened to be the child of the woman who called the cops

Also, I dont think Thaddeus had a history of wandering He only left because he saw his friend outside

But Georgia Division of Family and Children's Services said Thaddeus was left home alone before and she was given a warning even though they found no wrongdoing

He is 4 and left his house by himself and went to join his friend. Whose mom noticed and called the cops within 15 minutes. From that it appears the mother was close by and at least attentive enough to notice a spare kid showing up either while on a walk or in their yard.

Maybe not wandering but

Someone found out he was home alone somehow. If the mom knew the kid had been left alone before and she had reason to suspect it happened again and he was leaving the house by himself, it is just being a responsible adult to call the cops.

Not only that but would you want the liability of watching a random kid showing up at your door?

Within 15 minutes she noticed him gone and found him at his friend's house down the street but the friend's mom already called 5-0 and Henderson was asked to come home and police took her statement.

The context is she wasn't watching her own kid and called the cops but didn't get arrested.
