It's Thursday, you know what that means: fight night! Here's the card for tonight:

https://i.imgur.com/dqvZg0Y.jpg

The main event is a battle between two veterans that have competed in every single season since BattleBots returned to TV as Hypershock takes on Lock-Jaw. As usual, please put any discussion of match results under spoiler tags until 24 hours after the episode airs out of consideration for people who can't watch the episode live, especially if you decide to watch the episode early on Discovery+ before it airs on TV. Plus, stay on the lookout for the bonus fight on the BattleBots Youtube channel this coming Sunday, which looks like a very meme-worthy matchup this week.

I didn't get the chance to make the post early this week, so IT'S ROBOT FIGHTIN' TIME as of the time of this post and Rotator vs. Black Dragon is about to start off the show.

Black Dragon and ending a fight as a smoking mess. Name a more iconic couple.

Yeah, that was pretty cool. The thing is, I believe this season's filming actually took place before Betty White's death, so she was still alive when Faruq called her "immortal" in that intro.

ya - they wouldn't have said it like they did if she had just passed

that being said, betty was, and remains, immortal (recent unpleasantness notwithstanding)

Man, I really hope they didn't show that sad story about Minotaur dude's mom/grandma dying of COVID only for Minotaur to immediately lose afterwards. I hope he gets the win and thankfully he did.

Kraken got fucking robbed. Hijinx shouldn't have got a single control or aggression point. The only reason it even got to touch Kraken is because Kraken let it.

Like if a fight where a bot clearly dominated control and aggression cannot win a fight then they might as well get rid of control bots.

Yeti's beatdown of Pain Train was one of the most brutal we've seen all season and it was awesome.

I could understand Hijinx getting one point of aggression, because it looked like they did still try to move towards Kraken regularly despite having an inverted bot with inverted controls. But control should have definitely been 3-0 for Kraken.

That was an amazing main event! There was a ton of hits and both bots took a lot of damage, but Hypershock took control and landed a big hit to knock Lock-Jaw out of the arena and get the win Great end to a pretty good episode overall.

Not many surprises but wow. Greatest self-right since Warhead.

And Blade is pathetic. The 1960s appliance aesthetic is also ass.

Lockjaw vs hypershock was a top tier match. Two great drivers looking great together.

I was really, really impressed by Pain Train in the beginning. It lasted longer in this fight than any of its others, and even though it got thoroughly dismantled by the end, it was a good fight and a strong showing for the first minute.

I feel bad for Blade. Like its first fight was against the hardest counter to Horizontals in the competition. And last night's fight was a freak accident. I still don't know what to think of the bot.

Well that sucked. Honestly, I know they are a tradition, but I think it's time to retire the killsaws. The killslots have done more damage to bots since the reboot than the saws ever have, but not in a good way. I do think they should still have some uneven ground "slots" to create a driving hazard for low-grounders, but they would only need to be a couple of inches deep to have the effect and it wouldn't be possible for a bot to get straight up stuck in them.

The hellraisers still exist yet are practically unseen. I want more of them, the pneumatic ramp, the spinner, etc.

But somehow the sport needed an upper deck?

There are yellow sections of the floor that have piston holes and can raise a bot. Closer to the ramrods from back in the day. The ramps used to be the hellraisers.

I haven't kept up with the series since way back when it aired on G4. But are battle bots designed with to flip over/ring out other bots, or wield buzz saws still OP?

Well that sucked.

To be fair, SMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE had already ripped off Deep Six's wheel, so it was likely only able to go around in circles and would have been counted out anyways Plus, as dumb as bots getting stuck in the killsaw slots is, I think it works as a balancing tool to keep the "race for the low ground" in check. Bots with huge forks for low ground have to drive carefully to avoid what's essentially a hazard that affects them more than the others. It's just a shame that Deep Six needs its forks for stability and not just for low ground.

Again, I think there should be something as a deterant toward floor scrappers, but they should actually be designed as such, not a by-product of a different hazard and it definitely shouldn't be able to actually actually incapacitate a bot like the current killslots do. I mean if instead of the killsaws you just had some half-inch wide, half-inch deep slots, it would still impede floor-scrapers but without running the risk of actually disabling a bot.

But the killsaws as they are now are absolutely useless as their intended purpose and have a far too pronounced unintended purpose.
