So to be clear, for the game that is known for it's European accents, one of the British actors is faking an American accent.

Yeah the way the accents go, most Blades are supposed to be American.

Xenoblade 2 does fun stuff with accents. But, a lot of it involves people and places you haven't seen yet so it's hard to go into it very much.

BTW inside the farm area of the town there's a monster you aren't supposed to kill or it will lock you out of a quest line. It's a Lv1 enemy called Infant Ardun and I think it has a quest marker on top of it that usually indicates enemies to kill. Some players kill it before finding out they aren't supposed to and regret it.

I decided to use 1 of those legendary core crystals from the DLC. Don't want to break the game so no more for now.

I luckily avoided this, I fed him good and now he's level 20!

The last dungeon really hampered my experience. Mostly because my last save was prior to that dungeon, and I was extremely under level for the final boss and I refused to go back to my last save and go through that slog again.

Took a couple hours and a bunch of attempts but finally got past him with some combination of Riki cheese.

I had the same issue but I think there was a path next to the boss with some enemies you could grind on.

I was surprised at how difficult that boss was even if you were leveled. Reminds me of Yunalesca

I just Key Sphere jump to Holy and Yunalesca was cake. Sounds like the fight is a nightmare without it though.

Yunalesca isn't that difficult as long as you have some way to deal with Mega-Death.

On replays I play underleveled so she still gets me sometimes with non-megadeath attacks. It's a battle of attrition so it's trivial if you're slightly overleveled. Or if you cheese with aeon overdrives, but that trivializes any boss.

IIRC DLC hands you a bunch of Ether you can spend on skills for Poppi. But, I don't recall how far that actually gets you. It didn't exist when I first played so I had to grind Tiger Tiger.

I can certainly afford a lot of items but almost all of them are locked behind some kind of license.

For Blade combos there are specific chains that need to be followed like Fire - Fire - Fire or Ice - Water - Wind or whatever.

So you would start the combo with a level 1 Fire special and you'll get a prompt from your other characters to do a Level 2 Fire special. Then you'll get a prompt to do a Level 3 Fire Special which will trigger the big super move and put an orb on the enemy.

So a good strategy is to start the special with your character, stall to do the 2nd step with one of your party members as long as you can to build up your own meter again, and then do the level 3 finisher with your character.

The blade combo has to follow the specific element chain (Fire - Fire - Fire) and each step needs to be 1 level higher than the previous (1 - 2 - 3). So you might set up blades for your party and realize that you don't have any good elemental chains to actually do blade combos.

Higher ranked stuff can't be made until you find certain key items later in the story.

You can also determine what your teammates' current special level is by the little spinning circles. Each circle represents 1 level. So if you start a combo with Pyra's special and see Nia's water symbol show up on the side of battle, but you can't activate it yet, it's because she hasn't built up her special to level 2 yet. This is why it's important to give them the pouch items that boost special recharging.

The other thing to keep in mind is no matter how high someone's special level is, a combo will always start at level 1. So trying to build up your special to level 3 before starting a combo won't help you at all (well the attack will be stronger, but you still start at combo level 1).

Once you give your teammates new blades, the AI is usually pretty good at switching to whatever element can extend the current combo. Usually. This is also true for driver combos, but that can be less reliable since their necessary art to advance the driver combo might be on cooldown or something.

just keep track of the roman numeral by your artes gauge so you know what level Special you're on, start with a I, do level 2 with a II, finish on a III (eg.... Pyra's Level I: Flame Nova, Dromarch's Level II: Aqua Wave, Texan Titbunny's Level III: Frost Queen... this is a Fire -> Water -> Ice chain which causes Seal Shackle Blade)

Another tip, ofc you can see your partners have a prepared special for the combo when it prompts you to use them, but you can also tell what level Special they currently have by how many white circles are orbiting their face

so for example in this pic, a Water combo is started and can either go down Water or Earth branches, Rex has a Level 2 special ready (the roman numeral) but no Water or Earth blade so he can't help. Nia has Water but she doesn't have any Special gauge, Tora however has Earth, and a Level 2 special prepared (there's 2 white dots orbiting his face), thus he's prompting to be used to continue the combo.

So how long do I have to use the next step then? I figured I had to use it as soon as their attack finished.

And level IVs are unrelated?

When a blade combo starts, a gauge will appear at the top of the screen. You have until the gauge runs out to use the next special. At which point the gauge will refill and you have until it runs out again to use the third special.

This means it can be beneficial to wait a little bit before doing a level 2 special, as it gives you or a teammate more time to build up to level 3.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed Xeno 1! I'll get to 2 myself one of these days. Maybe after Horizon so I'll be prepared for 3 later this year.

Level IVs can only be done by the player character and it's essentially the Blade's Ultimate move. They don't even get built-up the same way as the other levels but instead by having a Level 3 special and high affinity with the Blade in battle (the affinity link between you and your blade will go gold and the Level III will charge up to a Level IV)

oh yeah in that image above it's kinda cropped out but there is a timer bar there showing how much time is left to do it, you can still see the water element and the word Aqua, that's the timer bar

Besides the distasteful story stuff that screenshot up there is another problem I had with Xenoblade 2. That's just too much stuff going on.

Also it's been a while but I believe that a level 4 special is treated the same as a level 3 special as far as Blade combos go.

Vangarre from Xenoblade 1 is also a Vandham in Japanese. But, the English version changed his name to Vangarre.

oh right I had that in my mind (originally played japanese release where... yeah he's Vandham) but then I'm like wait a second but he's Vangarre and just forgot localizations sometimes change things

The core crystal I could attribute to lore reasons, at least temporarily, but his unlock keys being hidden was the final nail.

I rolled a mother fuckin' polar bear.

Ursula has a crazy long quest chain to unlock her full potential and it's NOT worth it. But I still wasted so much time doing her quest.

There is a Nopon at Argentum on the docks (not the ones you fast travel to) that gives you a core called "Massive Melee Mythra".

Equip it on her, and it changes her outfit to be less silly.

Is there one for Pyra because she's the real offendor.
