Someone that's really cool and you have fun with but it's a shitty worker or someone that just annoys the shit out of you but is a good worker?

The former. All that would matter to me is I do MY job well and I enjoy the company.

If their work has no negative affect on my being employed than the former by a mile. If its a case where i would have to pick up the slack....probably still the former unless the work was physically exhausting.

I was talking more like in a group so their work has a direct effect on your work.

Shitty worker as long as it doesn't double my work. A shitty worker will always make you look like a god by comparison and its nice when its that time of the year for raises.

With such a vague question and not detailing what work is being done, I'd probably take the good worker because the work will turn out better than with a worker whose product is of low quality.

Depends on whether or not I'm personally inconvenienced by the shitty worker's shittiness.

If it's a larger company, and I have no real vested interest in whether or not it succeeds or fails, there's zero reason for me to really care about whether anyone else is actually doing their job unless I'm going to be expected to pick up the slack for them. And even then, picking up a little bit of slack is fine (especially if it's for someone I actually like pretty well).

On the other hand, if I'm seriously invested in the success of the company for some reason (I own it, I own part of it, it's really hard to get jobs in the field so I can't afford to lose the job so really don't want to see the company go under, etc), or if I'm going to be doing twice the work (or more) for no extra benefit just to fix all the things the other guy is ignoring or screwing up, then I'd probably prefer the person who actually gets the job done and holds up their end over the fun guy.

Though it also depends on just how (and how much) the good worker "annoys the shit out of me". My usual reaction to someone with a terrible personality would be to just ignore them and avoid engaging with them on a personal level so we both just do our jobs, but if they're annoying in a way that I can't really ignore, or they're actively interfering with how I do my own job and causing constant frustration, it'd probably turn into a "fuck you and fuck this job" scenario pretty quickly.

I was talking more like in a group so their work has a direct effect on your work.

I was always the kid who basically did 90% of the work in group projects back in school, because my mentality was always "I don't want your ineptitude dragging me down, so just sit back and let me do this the right way". Basically, in any group scenario, I tend to step in, take over, and dictate direction, and sort of pick up the slack and fill in the gaps if other people aren't fully doing what I told them to. My own control freak tendencies worry less about the extra work because of the advantage of being able to guide and control my own fate.

Work's mostly the same (and if you're smart you can turn the extra effort into extra reward via raises or promotions if you're good at selling yourself to bosses and your coworkers aren't actively stealing credit for things you've done), so it doesn't become a huge problem unless an unviable about of work is getting dumped on you.

Probably the latter

People can screw around as much as they want as long as they do so in a safe manner and get the job done

Besides, there's always that one guy at work who's going to give you a hard time

Depends on what kind of job I'm doing and how much I have to interact with them.

I definitely got sick of working with the first type when I was working in restaurants.

In my current engineering job - I'd much rather have the second type.

In that case yeah I'd rather work with a group I can enjoy the shift with. In would be boring to be sat/stood in silence for 8 -12 hour shifts. I certainly wouldn't talk to a group of people who are rude to me.

Depends on if I gotta pick up the shitty workers slack. Like at my job it depends on what post I'm working. In a dorm I'd take the latter. On the yards and maybe seg (non shower night) I'd take the former as I enjoy those posts and don't mind picking up the slack. If gatehouse (if I ever actually get trained there) the former cause what they do or don't do will have no bearing on what I gotta do.

That's fine, it's pretty easy to shut down conversation by giving answers that don't lead any other topics.

I got one that just talks about himself all the time. And will repeatedly say "HUH?" If you don't respond. Try to change topic he responds with I don't care about that and back to himself. He repeats himself alot and seems to think everyone talks about him good and bad. Always wanting to know what people say about him. His catchphrase is "you hear about me?" Especially to newer people
