Maybe in a couple years if valve actually continues to support it instead of pumping and dumping like they've done with previous hardware

Eh, probably not. Even if I could afford one, I've never had the urge or desire to play any of my Steam games on the go. I usually just game at home, and my PC is there.

i don't think it will be something you can just decide to buy and get it right then. pretty sure all pre-orders are sitting in a queue and will be served in the order in which they were received. if you order one a couple of days after they release, you'll just get put in the back of the queue.

Unless reviews end up being bad because I'll cancel it if that's the case.

No. I like the hardware concept, but I'd want one that can actually be used primarily in a docked mode, basically as a desktop replacement much like how I currently use my laptop, while also supporting portable use. In particular, this means I want 32GB RAM and the option to add an eGPU later - or in other words, that I want the Ryzen 6000 model of the Aya Neo whenever that comes out. GPD Win3 is an option too if they ever release a 32GB model, but, y'kno, it's not Ryzen.

Steam Deck only has 16GB RAM - alright when there's a dedicated GPU, not so keen on it when relying on integrated, also not great for general usage beyond just gaming. CPU is basically Ryzen 5000 but with the Ryzen 6000 series' iGPU. There's no eGPU support (this is also true for current-gen Aya Neo models, but won't be once they make a Ryzen 6000 series model).

There's also the fact that the Steam Deck is a fucking chungus compared to the competitors, but this is less of a dealbreaker and more just a minor downside.

For the form factor anything over 16gb would be overkill

I don't really get the appeal. Handheld gaming has always been more of a "no choice" matter if you want to play some games rather than actually beneficial. And if you are someone who travels a lot, having a laptop makes much more sense for both general utility and screen size.

If you're only going to use it with the stock OS for portable gaming, sure. As soon as installing Windows and using it as a general-purpose PC, often used in a docked setup, that can also do portable gaming is taken into account, 32GB becomes very justifiable. I'd also be somewhat concerned about whether 16GB will be enough in the future, especially considering - again - that a significant chunk of this will be borrowed by the iGPU, unlike in a standard gaming laptop where the GPU has its own dedicated, seperate, RAM - possibly 8GB or more of it.

I really don't get the obsession with having like 10 seperate PCs for every different purpose...

You can, but keep in mind the integrated display is 720p; an external display you connect it to is likely to be 1080p or higher.

It isn't possible to connect an eGPU to it. Thunderbolt 3 or 4, or USB4, is required for that; the Steam Deck has none of these. The GPD Win3 has Thunderbolt 4; current models of Aya Neo have neither but it's basically a sure thing that once they bring out a Ryzen 6000 model (which they've all but confirmed they're planning to do), it'll have USB4.

Another point to note is that it appears the iGPU in the Steam Deck is 8 RDNA2 CUs. For comparison, in the Ryzen 6000 series, the Ryzen 5 models will have 6 RDNA2 CUs, while the Ryzen 7 models will have 12. This means that, assuming Aya Neo specifically produce a model with a Ryzen 7 CPU from the 6000 series (presumably the 6800U), it'll have ~50% more graphics power than the Steam Deck.

No. It might be worth understanding some of if you're comparing Steam Deck to other options though. If you just want "a Switch but for PC games", then absolutely just get the Steam Deck. I want "a Switch but for my entire PC, not just games, but also definitely including games", hence why those details are a bit more important to me.
