Even if you work from home. You rely on gas prices for food and goods transportation, so will still feel this increase.

So Ukraine has essentially become yet another proxy war if what I'm getting from this speech is accurate.

No. Russia is directly involved and the US isn't really doing anything

I have a feeling that this will be a world war. And Russia has the favor of China...man, I thought the pandemic would be the topic of our lifetime.

A proxy war can still directly involve one side and still be a proxy war.

For example the russian invasion of Afganistan was considered a proxy war.

Biden is saying sanctions > military respond against Russia.

Russia won't be in China's camp for long if it affects China's economy.

There's probably hesitancy about that because Putin may take a direct threat to his own financial wellbeing as an attack and use that to attack NATO

The refusal to even discuss China was slightly worrying.

Some of those reporters only asked questions they had before Biden gave his announcement which made them all look really dumb. Did any of those reporters at the end really think speaking all at once was going to get Bidens attention when he was choosing who to answer? I swear some of those reporters act like children and shouldnt be employed. Also lol at that reporter asking about gas prices. What a moron.

Long story short in the announcement, some very devastating sanctions are going to happen to Russia from all over Europe and North America. Sanctions take time to take effect. Theyre like a slow acting poison. Biden also said he is still in talks with certain countries like India. China he didnt want to talk about because its a sensitive issue that he needs to play his cards right with.

It looks like Putin is ready to die and even sacrifice his country to do what he believes in. Even if the sanctions crumble Russia's economy, will it stop them? Sorry I dunno much about war economy.

They've been talking about these sanctions since it was clear Russia was lining an invasion up.

Imagine the sanctions as the Russian military units on the Ukraine border, just as they crossed the border, so the (heavy) sanctions started. It'll take time for Russia to fully occupy Ukraine, same as it'll take time for the effects of the sanctions to cripple Russia's economy even further.

Biden said the Ruble is at historically low levels, so I wouldn't imagine it takes too long for the sanctions to take their toll

I feel as though that's the right move, as being proactive could be seen as being the aggressor.

If there's no economy, no money, there's no war.

The major concern is Russia getting desperate enough to utilize nukes

However if NATO is as bolstered on the eastern front as they make it out to be, it's possible a nuclear strike in Ukraine would be intercepted.

But at that point, gloves are off

You and I seem to be the only ones that remember gas prices during the Bush years.

Also, Russia being an oligarchy is a negative for Russia.

If the oligarchs money is threatened too much, they'll depose Putin and install a calmer mind.

And if there's no money to pay their troops (the little they already make), how many will stick around to fight? An unpaid, unfed, unsupplied army will collapse in minimal time.

It'll have a ripple effect beyond that. Inflation is already bad, and it'll get worse.

Great for American oil companies though, since with Russia out of the way, they can start shipping crude oil from America into Europe to make up for the hole in the market.

Yeah, the "President it terrible because gas is so expensive" redcaps are either too young, or choose not to remember how high gas prices were under Bush Jr, nor how low they were under Clinton.
