I feel like I had the exact opposite experience. To me Battlebots was the "real" robot combat show, and Robot Wars was the cheap knockoff. Y'all can play with your Megabloks all day, I'll be over here with my Lego.

I think with this Hydra loss I can let go of the Huge fight. Hydra has got its comeuppance. I'm no longer going to root against it at every turn.

I can tolerate smug comments and over-the-top confidence like what Ray Billings was doing in the earlier seasons and what Jake Ewert was doing at first... but actively sucking the fun out of a fight just to win like what Jake did in that Huge fight last season was the point where he went too far for me. That was basically spitting in the face of what the competition is supposed to be, which is far beyond simply being unsportsmanlike.

imo what made it irredeemable was when he started back-talking the ref. employing the method he did to fight Huge was petty and extremely counter to the spirit of the competition, but it would have probably been excusable if he hadn't gone for the full "annoying older brother" vibe with it. when the ref tells you you need to back off, you back the fuck off, you don't start with the "not touching, can't get mad! not touching, can't get mad!" type bullshit.

All of this also applies to Jenny Taft as well.

I am always on the Tombstone hate train though. The dude who drive Tombstone seems like the biggest fucking douche.

Hydra last year used an attachment in its fight against Huge which, while technically legal, basically prevented the bots from actually fighting. It was not a popular.

And Ray (and Tombstone) plays the heel purely for entertainment value. He is apparently the nicest a most helpful guy behind the scenes and is beloved by the other teams. But all shows need a villain.

this fight against Huge, in which Jake Ewert decides to use an oversight/loophole in the rules in a very petty and unsportsmanlike way in order to add a countermeasure against Huge that basically turns the match into a nonfight, and precludes the usage of its own main weapon, and when the ref tells him per the rules that he has to back off, he basically tells the ref "fuck you, no i don't":

imo the instant Jake Ewert disregarded the ref's instructions, it should have been an automatic disqualification

I dont have a problem with interchangeable weapons and stuff. I think that's great and it brings in a lot of stratgey, but it is not right to have an attachment for a specific opponent, thats just very unsportsmanlike.
