Ho-oh took the lead from the start and never looked back, Groudon was a clear second, and Zacian barely won the battle for third over Xerneas.

Lugia was once my favourite Pokemon. It's still my favourite legendary, and #6 on the overall project ranking so far. Love it.

Zekrom is the best legendary in the series. Palkia is the only dud from this group, though Lugia's just okay. The rest are all pretty good to great.

Zekrom & Yveltal are the two I actually picked their versions for and they remain my top 2 fav of this group. Close but I kinda lean Zekrom, although I wish I had a Yveltal themed hoodie

Kyogre, Lugia: I like them slightly better than their counterparts but it's close and I like the other ones too

Legendaries are bad ngl. Ho-Oh is probably the only actively good one for these two days, although Gen 3 and 5 are both fine as well as Xerneas. The Sword/Shield dogs are some of the most boring Pokmon in existence and probably the shittest box legendaries, but they generally just suck.

version "c" is much better for most of these. don't like Giratina at all but the others are great.

Then there's the basket cases of V and beyond when we stopped getting simple 3rd versions.... V and VI still have pretty obvious 3rd counterparts (Kyurem & Zygarde) but the other two not so much... I guess Eternatus

Regardless of how the game release structures changed, it's still obvious which legendaries are meant to be the third part of a thematic trio.

I'm not a big fan of a lot of gen one designs, 4-5 are probably my favourites and I didn't like the gen 1 games much as a kid, but I still think legendaries after gen 3 are awful. 4's oversaturation and overdesign really started the trend and then gens 6-8 hit us with some absolute trash.

This is the set we're doing tomorrow btw, I've already made up the pic! It won't be 'third version cover legendaries' but thematically I think this group fits together much better than if I excluded Zygarde/Eternatus but included Suicune/Calyrex.

As for today, I like this set significantly more than the A versions. Lugia and Kyogre are both top tier for me, I'm having trouble deciding between them. Lugia is more iconic and has anime power but Kyogre is very much my kind of pokemon, hmm...

That's the right way to handle the third legendary counterparts to the main cover legendaries, since not all third legendaries were used as a cover legendary for a third version game (and third versions haven't been a thing since Gen 4). Necrozma is the last one who appeared as a cover legendary (only as the fusion forms with either Solgaleo or Lunala).

Man, Palkia is getting washed.

Yveltal is one that I should like based on my general design/aesthetic tastes but it just doesn't work for me for whatever reason, it just feels like it tries too hard. Xerneas works way better in that duo.

Palkia is the only one I absolutely do not like more than its counterpart. Both the dogs are whatever but I guess I like Zacian more. Yveltal and Lunala are close but I do end up liking them more. All the other B version pokemon are clearly better. Including Blastoise.

Lugia, Yveltal, Lunala, Kyogre, and Palkia are all great.
