A lot of movement in yesterdays topic - in addition to the main game Planescape: Torment lost the top spot and Dragon Age: Inquisition became the first game to escape the not enough ratings area. Anyway, todays game is The Last Guardian. How would you rate the story on a scale from 1-10?

It's the best part of the game. Lots of creepy implied horror going on in the background. The bond between Trico and the boy is palpable, tender and at times frustrating which all builds on their relationship tremendously well. And there's a cool combo of magic and technology present throughout the game which only helps add to the game's air of mystery.

Man maybe I gotta play Clannad. I've given that game so much shit over the years for how awful the character designs are but I don't know shit about it. Doesn't appear to be a console release unfortunately.

As for Last Guardian...kind of tough to rate. I guess I'm mostly going to have to go by atmosphere and in comparison to its predecessors.....7?

It's still a factor that effects my decision of what to play in the first place! I loved Ciconia chapter 1 but it certainly hurt that it looked like it did. If I hadn't already been full in on Ryukishi I wouldn't have started it up in the first place. I don't have any such preconceived expectations for Key stuff.

Trico (the beast) and the boy's relationship is the main draw of the plot which is presented in the subtle storytelling style of ICO. I'm a huge fan of SotC but I found ICO to be lacking and The Last Guardian is a spiritual successor to ICO more so than SotC. Infact it has very little similarities to SotC other than aesthetics and tone.

Now with that said the game goes all in on the boy and Trico's gradually developing relationship as far as the plot is concerned with little else to spare for anything else. Which is why the plot reflects on your experience rather than what is actually there or what is presented.

Personally for me, this was a very unpleasant experience. In a game riddled with puzzles which greatly rely on Trico, he is seldom responsive and sometimes outright ends up doing things that literally set you back. I played the base version on launch so I dunno whether this was patched later. This led to a frustrating overall experience and skewed the narrative against its favor. The bond between boy and Trico didn't exactly resonate as well as it evidently did with some other players. Ending was nice but the fact that I cared more about Agro than Trico speaks volumes about the impact the game had on me.

I need to play The Last Guardian. Had it since 2016.

Somebody said there's a gameplay issue that if you know about, it'll save you a lot of headache (something about climbing up on your companion?). Does anybody know?

Everything Snake said, the bond just hit me even harder. Pretty much a perfectly structured story and the ending is a 10.
