The regular season is done, the bracket is set, and the stakes are raised. The 2022 BattleBots World Championship Tournament kicks off tonight!

Tonight, we'll be seeing the first round matches on the left-hand side of the bracket, including the #1 overall seed and reigning BattleBots champion End Game in action. You can see the full bracket by clicking the link above, so fill out your brackets, make your predictions, and call your upsets... the journey to crown a new champion begins in a little over an hour. Which team is going to raise the giant nut at the end?

IT'S ROBOT FIGHTIN' TIME! The tournament gets under way with Shatter vs. Riptide.

Also since I forgot to put it in the opening post and I can't edit it in now, I'll edit it in here: Please put any discussion of match results under spoiler tags until 24 hours after the episode airs out of consideration for people who can't watch the episode live, especially if you decide to watch the episode early on Discovery+ before it airs on TV.

Three dominant wins by Riptide, Skorpios, and (surprisingly) P1 to start off the show. I predicted two of those first three fights correctly. Minotaur vs. Bloodsport is next, and that sounds like an absolutely brutal fight in the making.

I guess nobody else was around to watch/post live this week. A shame, because it was a fairly eventful episode. Glitch having to withdraw and being replaced with Mammoth was a shock, but I had Witch Doctor winning that fight anyways so it didn't affect my bracket at all.

I went 6-2 in my bracket, only guessing Bloodsport and Hypershock wrong.

could have seen the last 1/2 or so, but i turned on the tv and reflexively turned on the ncaas and there was kentucky getting upset

I'm still a bit salty about P1 vs. Hypershock, but it's honestly all on Hypershock. The weapon they used (mainly its length) combined with the shape of the little 'horns' on the top made it so that the bot couldn't properly drive upside down, like it used to be able to. Whenever the weapon tried to spin up, it just bonked the floor and imbalanced the driving. That seems like a significant design oversight, especially when fighting a lifter like P1.

That said, Mammoth's surprise appearance was hype as fuck--too bad they went up against a world-class bot right out of the gate. They never stood a chance, poor things.

My bracket for our watch parties got decimated already. I had Shatter beating Riptide (more or less banking on Riptide being worn out as a new bot with a big, powerful weapon--I expected mechanical failure at this point in the season...ironically that happened to Glitch, instead). I also had Hypershock beating P1. I even had Glitch making it all the way to fight Endgame before losing, which might have been a long shot, but I was going for the unexpected picks.

The other fights went about as expected, with Endgame reminding everybody just how terrifying it is. I don't know what it is, but Endgame just feels like it's in a whole nother league; are its parts significantly more expensive than others? It just feels like it's insanely sturdy, insanely powerful, and insanely fast all at once, where usually there's a big weight/battery power trade-off for focusing on any one area that much.

Idk, Endgame is just bonkers. I would love to see them fight Bite Force with their current power level.

I'm pretty sure it's already been confirmed that they will.

i feel so bad for Glitch, having to bow out due to technical difficulties. they performed so well for a rookie team, and knocked the shit out of Hydra which gave me personal satisfaction. looking on the bright side though, when they come back next time, they can be like "so yeah, we're Glitch, we're undefeated" lol.

Yeah, I felt bad for them too. But I totally understand why the producers made the call, especially after what the Witch Doctor team posted on their Facebook and the Glitch team posted on their website about the situation.

Honestly that's one of the coolest things about Battlebots. It's all one big collaborative effort where a bunch of enthusiasts just want to have awesome fights with opponents who are at their best possible level.

The Huge / Uppercut fight was cool. It would have been hype to see in the show.

The Copperhead / Lucky fight wasn't bad by any means, but it was kind of one note. I can see why they would want it to be on YouTube, because it's reminiscent of the Blacksmith / Minotaur fight that's gone incredibly viral, and makes it to the front page of Reddit like once a month.

Finally caught up, and finished the first part. Salty that 2 tournament fights were cut from the show, and that Glitch vs WD didn't happen, but oh well. Rooting for the SawBlaze vs Uppercut rematch.
