It's weird cuz the game itself doesn't reveal Jack's last name until near the end and it's still treated like a plot twist within the game.

Also, what exactly tipped everyone off before they officially revealed it?

Probably all of Jack's talk about Chaos, the first trailer talking about "Garland disappearing," and knowing how the original FF1 ends with Garland becoming Chaos.

Can't forget the voice actor and one of the lines he said in the trailer. It wasn't his iconic dissidia "I'll crush you" line, but it sounded like the lines he'd say during combat in dissidia. So yeah, if you played the psp games you know the origin of the warrior of light, and this is the origin story for his eternal counterpart. And everything with the lufenians is compatible with the shinryu stuff. Jeez.

The ending gave me chills.

The story is wonky all throughout, especially with so much forced and abrupt dialogue (I'm guessing on account of trying not to give too much away too early), but they really stuck the landing IMO.

Fun game.

What do you plan to play next?

Replaying FFX at the moment. Gonna try X-2 when I finish, cuz I remember not getting into it at all back when I last tried.

Yeah, the ending was really good. I watched a playthrough of FF1 beforehand since I figured I'd need to know the lore and references, and it was a good idea lol. Really cool to see everything come together.

Its a really good game. I just finished it a few hours ago. I should have all of the games trophies on PlayStation by tomorrow and Im going to do everything on Chaos difficulty. I wont get my hopes up but I would love to see another Final Fantasy Origins focused on different villains. Maybe Emperor Mateus from Final Fantasy II.

Really happy I got the opportunity to play Stranger of Paradise.

Ash does say "let's knock em down!" during combat sometimes though.

You'd think he'd coulda said it during the ending sequence when he gets extra screamy. Or he coulda mentioned knocking the smug Lufenians down a peg to the party or something.

Yeah, that scene at the end where he was screaming at the Lufenians would've been perfect. I was 100% expecting it. "I'm gonna knock you all fuckin down!"

That would've been a cute lil reference. Maybe they figured it woulda been too memey for the moment or something.

Idk, "too memey" for Jack Limp Bizkit Garland? If anything, it would've been super in character.

Maybe they just weren't aware of the line being a meme, since I'm sure it was just a regular piece of dialogue in the JP version of FF1?

Yeah I guess it wouldn't have been as odd as the Limp Bizkit moment. Also, even if I'll Knock You Down isn't a meme in Japan, it's the localization team's moral responsibility to add it in where they can. They let Ash say it, so they certainly know it's a thing. Plus there's enough generic antagonistic screaming at the end where they coulda replaced a line with it. They simply chose not to for some unfathomable reason.

I was more expecting it when he was talking about the warriors of light at the end. "They can try" or something like that, I was hoping it would be "I'll knock them all down."

I'm wondering if the DLC will further bridge the gap between Stranger of Paradise and FF1

In FF1 the Lufenians have a city in the northeast of the map (on the continent we haven't visited in this game so far) so I wonder if one of the DLC will deal with Jack delivering on his promise.

I feel like bridging the gap wouldn't be super hard to do, tbh.

In FF1, the Lufenians were already a thing, and they already had higher tech like Neon said they did during SoP, so in this reset timeline all they'll have to say is that the Lufenians never met with their "collaborator" from the reports that allowed them to start their Stranger Program, and so they were forced to stay on World A, tried to make a flying city until Tiamat (Sophia) knocked them down, and then lived as regular people.

The thing that will take the most explaining is how Jack uses his piece of the crystal matrix to orchestrate his time loop from FF1. But even then shouldn't be too hard to explain. I'm looking forward to the DLC.

I wonder if they can be co-canon with how the Warrior of Light works (namely it being one guy in Dissidia but there are four in FF1)

But I will say it was badass seeing the Dissidia design of WoL showing up to fight Jack at the end.

Of course that was my thought but I then wondered Cid of the Lufain would have had his experiment begin long before the events of SoP began, but then I remembered that Chaos was born in World A and he's the one who dragged Garland to World B so it's all very... confusing.

I beat it last night myself. Excellent game, shame the multiplayer is extremely hit and miss.
