I'm pretty set on getting a 9mm or a .380 but I might go up to .45 if the price is right.

I've been looking at the Springfield 1911 Range Officer 9mm but holy hell they are hard to find.

I have plenty of experience. I own a rifle and two shotguns. My dad and older brother have hand guns that I've shot plenty of times. This will be my first handgun purchase for use of carrying.

What's a ghost gun?
A privately made firearm (also called ghost gun) is a term for a (typically) homemade firearm that lacks commercial serial numbers. The term is used mostly in the United States by gun control advocates, gun rights advocates, law enforcement, and some in the firearm industry. Because home-manufacture of firearms for personal use is not considered to fall under the federal governments authority to regulate interstate (as opposed to intrastate) commerce, individuals making their own firearms are not subject to federal or state commercial background check regulations. Persons otherwise prohibited from owning firearms are still legally barred from the manufacture, transfer, or possession of firearms or ammunition, regardless of the method of manufacture or acquisition.

i used to carry a .45, but with this age of micro 9's i didnt see a whole lot of point in doing so provided you can use either just as well. you dont lose a hell of a lot power between a 9 and 45, but you do lose a lot of capacity.

default answer is a sig p365.

.380 with hollow points is more than enough for carrying. I have a 9mm and a .380 and prefer the latter because it's more comfortable to carry and has more capacity.

HOWEVER, being that .380 has been fucking impossible to find the last 2 years and ~$30 per box if you find it...I say get a 9mm. Ammo is plentiful and starts at $15 a box and you're going to want to put a few hundred rounds through it to become comfortable and proficient.

Always breaks my heart seeing this.

I have a 48 that I was so excited for when they announced it. But without any sort beaver tail back strap, I'm bleeding from slide bite after two or three mags.

Needless to say, it stays in the safe.

True, for the longest time I avoided compacts since my hands are pretty big too, but the grip on the 43X is pretty good. For a similar, but wider grip, try the Glock 19.

I dunno. Here is my hand with my 642 for comparison lol. That hogue grip is loads better than the stock grip, IMO. Though the damn PC models can be bought with some nice full size grips.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/9/0/AAemcQAADDzG.jpg

Honestly, you'll only know after shooting it. I can almost consciously avoid it, but it just bites the webbing just the slightest bit. Though honestly, I'd still feel comfortable carrying it despite the slide bite. It's a great gun and as I'm sure you know, most defensive scenarios wouldn't last long enough to give slide bite.

HOWEVER...it looks like there are finally some beaver tail back straps on the market. Not OEM but I dunno. I'm interested.

It means Indiana residents no longer need to have a permit to carry. Nothing to do with Trump, idk why you would even think that.

at the end of the day you really need go out and actually handle any pistol your interested in. its much more of a personal choice than any long gun is which is going to heavily depend on how it grips your hand, how you can manipulate the controls, how well it holsters and unholsters and how well it can conceal if you want to do that.

i went through an M&P shield plus for a week and a Glock 43x for a few months before switching over to a sig p365 which is what iv been carrying for over a year now. and even then i also went through 3 holsters before i found one that worked for me.

I had to think this through because it posed an interesting question: what is the provably WORST gun for home defense? A .22 single shot rifle is at least small and quick to point. A Barrett M82 is at least going to instantly stop whatever it hits. Even a good old fashioned musket is going to do good damage and won't hurt your ears. No, I wanted to know what the undisputable worst home defense gun in the world is; and I have found it.

This is the .950 JDJ Fat Mac. It is a 100 pound, 5 foot long rifle that shoots a one pound solid brass bullet at 2200 FPS. It is a non-NFA item only because the ATF gave it a sporting exemption as a joke as if anybody is going to hunt with this. This round would be overkill for hunting blue whales.
I would like to paint a picture for you. It's 2AM and you hear a window break in your living room. This is the worst day this could happen, as every single one of your guns was lost in a tragic boating accident this morning. All were lost except for one. You look across your room in dread at your anti-kaiju rifle. You know what you have to do, but you don't know if you have the strength to do it, both literally and figuratively.

Heaving the rifle into your arms, you load a .950 cartridge and begin to waddle towards the door. Your feet make a loud thud as you take each 6 step. You know the intruders hear you. You hope they do, for perhaps they will run and spare the world the suffering that is about to befall it.
You try to set the rifle down, but end up clipping your bedroom door and it is immediately knocked off its hinges by this battering ram in your hands. You attempt to round the corner, bonking the muzzle against the doorframe and adjacent wall across the hall at least 4 times. To your horror, two invaders stand there at the end of the hall.

With a heavy heart, you raise the rifle to your shoulder while making inhuman grunting noises from the strain of attempting some semblance of a shooting position. The burglars simply stare in disbelief, unable to process the situation they are witnessing, as if in a dream. You cannot aim the rifle, as the last time you fired the gun, it turned your $3000 Leopuld into a kaleidoscope. You simply hold it at an angle that appears correct and fire.

You are immediately knocked to the floor as if hit by a semi truck going 20 MPH. The shot connected with one of the criminals and it erased him from existence. Even the memories of him have been destroyed and you're wondering why you just shot into an empty hallway. The shot continues to travel through at least 4 houses, a car, and a 10 ton boulder before lodging itself 20 feet into a nearby hill, never to be seen again.

It is at this point, you realize you cannot hear. The surviving burglar can't hear either but he's also on fire from the muzzle blast and is currently vacating your home. You don't care. Your shoulder is dislocated and there is a hole in your brand new AR500 refrigerator. You're crying now. The police arrive and, upon seeing the scene, start laughing. You start crying harder.
