No, it's the tv producers who are wrong.

Our culture glorifies coffee and alcohol addiction.

Theyre not pounding down cups of strong black coffee, theyre drinking delicious coffee flavored drinks and that is accurate for many.

Plenty are.

Not helped by our BS school hours/system that have been found to massively fuck up teenagers' healthy sleep schedule.

Some form of caffeine addiction is almost guaranteed. Coffee's an easy one.

This. Starbucks popularized coffee for that age range. It's no longer just considered something your dad drinks every morning.

"Addicts" might be extreme, but plenty of people drank coffee when I was in high school. Including myself. And it's probably gotten more common since then.

Any scene where a group of people are sitting together outside of school they're all drinking coffee.

Seems like it's been this way as long as soda/pop was a thing. The format has shifted a bit to actual coffee products, but at the end of the day it's still caffeine.

Wasn't a thing as far as I know when I was in high school, but I'm old. I'm sure the dominance of Starbucks has helped this.

When I was in high school, I always thought that peers who drank coffee were just tryhard hipsters lol

Pretty much this. There weren't as many drinking coffee when I was in high school back in the 90s, but Starbucks has become ubiquitous (and pays for their shit to show up in movies & TV) so it's just the way it is now.

Every time I go by Starbucks its teenage girls coming out (both in the stand alone and the grocery store location.) And my teen nieces are always wanting to go when they visit since Starbucks is right next door. So life has started imitating art.

You sure about that? Late 90s is when coffee house popularity exploded. And it wasnt just Starbucks. You might remember a certain 90s sitcom that heavily featured a group of friends hanging out in a coffee house.

Fuckin 15 Canada and America are so at odds on that position

It's really easy to get a coffee before class with someone so I guess anyone who has lunch plans fucking needs it

I was the only guy in my high school classes that didn't drink coffee, and I don't mean Starbucks. There was a communal press and everything.

Kids are getting by with almost no sleep so they rely on coffee. My 12 year old is asleep by 9 and sleeps to 6. But many of her friends stay up until 1 or laterschool starts at 7:40, they arent getting enough sleep so coffee it is.

the "coffee" i drank in highschool had 4 spoons of sugar minimum. it was little more than a sugar rush along with caffeine

Those are examples of drinking alcohol, not alcohol addiction.

"Coffee" addiction for 22 minutes is easier to get past Standards & Practices than anything highschool kids would actually abuse.

Is it just america? I mean a lot of asian media shows coffee drinking for teens as well. There are even shows of people drinking coffee for dinner, which seems like a bad idea.

I dunno about coffee, but most teenagers I know slam back energy drinks like it's water.
