Define abrasive. Some communities don't appear to be that abrasive but have some people crazy groups of people in it who have done some pretty nasty crap. Like MLP or RWBY.

Probably Twitter as it's the single most toxic community that's ever existed; but it depends on what you define as 'abrasive'. Some other contenders would be the LoL community, other social media sites like Tumbler and Reddit, and the CoD lobby.

Probably the Forsenbajs, but they are also the funniest and most creative Twitch community. They like to troll people who take their ironic sadistic humour seriously.

I love it when you guys pretend that gamefaqs is somehow any worse than the most popular sites out there. Large pockets of reddit and Facebook are way saltier than this place has ever been and that's without getting into the "cesspools" on the Internet.

Hell look at how basic most of the threads on here are.

I've joined some Discord servers dedicated to certain users on Twitter. That's a complete shitshow.

While the ideas espoused by them are repugnant, the question here is about abrasiveness. You can discuss nazi ideology while being polite, civil, and the like. Conversely it's just as possible to espouse anti-nazi ideology while being a toxic jerkwad.

Comment sections on news videos on YouTube. Most of them are probably foreign bots but still.

I'd argue that espousing nazi ideology makes you a bigger toxic jerkwad, regardless of how polite you act.

Here's a pic of me in 2017 with an 87 year-old German guy I worked with for a year and heard some amazing stories from. He grew up in Berlin and lived through WWII, moved to the US and then Canada in the 60s.

He wasn't a fan of the "Greater German" project, which severely invaded the personal space, free speech and privacy of tens of millions of people (understatement) - although I have a feeling you're not really worth talking to.

Hans was so great to work with. He would bring in an old boombox and play me 'boogie woogie' that his cousin had taped on West German GI radio in the 50s. Real sweet guy.

There are too many to name. Many communities are abrasive because people are evil.

Yea; but is it the MOST toxic? It's pretty up there to be sure, but it's lacking the sheer, unbridled, vileness that something like Twitter has; especially since, once you leave the general chats, the actual community isn't that bad.

Sorry, but I have to disagree here. While the ideology is horrific toxicity is a matter of attitude.

Let's take a look at FFXIV and WoW as examples.

In WoW I have long-since stopped asking for help in raids and what-not despite being the tank. Why? Because if I ask for help, information, or the like I get berated, insulted, told I needed to do it on beta and/or watch a guide, and will likely get kicked, possibly even hounded in whispers after the fact. This holds true for content that is brand new and that most people are seeing for the first time. As a result I learned it was better not to ask and just slam my face into the wall over and over then to ask for help because asking for help, instead of being given advise, information, etc, results in nothing more than being berated.

In XIV when I ask for help in a fight I'll get the info I need and even players supporting me and cheering me on on occasion. 'Hey I don't understand X mechanic' gets greeted with 'Don't worry. You need to do Y.' While on WoW it's 'Hey I don't understand X mechanic' gets greeted with 'You ****wad ****ty tank. Kick *me*. They're a horrible tank.'

Please note, I am not a horrible tank. While I am not some god-tier player I've more than handled my own over the years and have shown myself to be a self-healing brick wall on multiple occasions. I not only have my mods going but I've got decades of experience to fall back on.
