Fang/Vanille maybe? I love these games but the romances aren't always very interesting. I do like how Cecil/Rosa have an established relationship before the game begins.

Tidus x Rikku as a fanship is probably the only FF romance I can get behind. My only beef with FFX is that the affection system means nothing besides who throws Tidus a ball for Blitz Ace and who rides with him on a snow mobile.

Or of stuff with some vague backing in the game Bartz x Faris. It's not really in your face but if they made a FFV-2 it would happen.

Voted Tidus x Yuna basically by default. Not because its any good but because it's vaguely passable in a series where the romances by and large are not (Probably should have voted other because the more I think about it the more I think Bartz x Faris probably legit counts)

Id have been fine with Tidus/Rikku and Squall/Selphie. Kind of a shame some FFs let you play around with affection to alter some scenes, but ultimate have it all be completely meaningless

But yeah I guess what I mean is that unlike you could pivot into it with minimal changes to the plot like you would need for most fanships. Like Squall x Selphie would definitely make FFVIII MUCH better but I don't think there's any foundation there and you'd have to rewrite a lot.

Very easy to convert Rikku to the love interest and have them both protecting Yuna like a sister instead.

I dunno. I felt like Selphie was pretty flirtatious with Squall in early FF8.

I think that's just Selphie's natural personality, although clearly someone at Square was a big fan because the game gives you many chances to be extra nice to her and actually punishes you a couple of times if you choose to be mean to her.

Also I think Tidus/Rikku works better as a sibling relationship than as a couple.

And don't get me wrong that ship is even worse than SquallxRinoa but yeah.

I think FFX's point of no return on the romance angle is when Tidus and Yuna are in the lake. SquallxRinoa much earlier than that, arguably the dance scene a few hours in, it's painfully clear they're going hard on that. You need to change a lot more.

That's the route the game took, and it works OK that way too.

I prefer Tidus as Yuna's protective big brother and think Rikku and him have better chemistry but yeah don't expect everyone to agree.

Honestly, Noct and any other female character in the game is a better pairing than Noct/Luna.

Snow/Serah is pretty hard to beat, and the undeserved hate Snow got is why people dont recognize it.

Snow hate is deserved.

I like Snow and I don't think the Serah romance is that great.

The problem with Snow/Serah is that Snow is single-mindedly devoted to her but Serah never shows that she cares as much.

In XIII-2 when a cute time traveling boy enters her life she calls Snow a 'good friend' lol

Noctis's best chemistry (aside from the bros OFC) is with the lady from the Terra DLC.

Snow/Serah is bad, the two don't connect as a couple at all.

Snow/Serah is funny just for Snow yelling SERAHHH

It's not very good. It's a Cecil/Rosa "tell don't show" type romance plus the upside of yelling SERAHHH
