The public response is almost certainly driven by Depp receiving repercussions for his part of the relationship while Heard received none and was lauded for coming forward.

It's even more hilarious because the majority of people criticizing her are women. And even if they weren't, criticizing someone for fabricating abuse is now misogynistic?

I said this to another person in this post already, but there are quite a few strange guys at CE who are obsessed with infantilizing women. They hurt women by doing this, but are too dense to see it.

I think regardless of who is guilty or not this trial and particularly the way it's covered and talked about is extremely harmful for actual abuse survivors. Just the other week we had people on here parroting various arguments about how she wasn't acting like a true victim is supposed to act... All while Depp is on there joking about trying to get Marilyn Manson to shut up. And apparently he's the victim here. And so on.

In the end this is a trial between two individuals and the only ones who actually know what transpired are those two. To me it looks very much like Depp is deliberately using this trial for PR, which 1) is working, and 2) is incredibly cynical. Yeah, the dogpiling on Amber Heard makes me really uncomfortable, and that's me already convinced that she's a bad person.

Regardless of who is to blame for any of this bullcrap, both of them are so egotistical and obsessed with being vindicated over a case that had already been mediated that they both deserve every bit of scorn they get.

I'm trying to figure out why people want to convince TC of Heard's guilt when he in no way has absolved her of guilt or made excuses for her.

We're getting way too personally invested in the personal lives of two rich celebrities.

What's happening is a reversal that Depp had been experiencing for years now. Amber Heard is just now fully experiencing consequences for faking the whole thing. The only reason anyone ever believed Heard was due to the timing of the #metoo movement.

The #believeallwomen stuff was used to counter the fact that women often weren't believed, but going the extreme opposite has negative consequences too. The whole idea that men can't be victims of domestic assault is being challenged.

I think the thing is we don't know for sure everything Depp did, but we have definitive proof of all the bullshit Amber did, including actual confessions.

The amount of attention this case has gotten is really bizarre. At least from the social media perspective. I've been trying my best to avoid it because I don't care about either of those two.

Just from a quick Google search one of Depp's assistants in 2020 stated he slapped and kicked Heard when he was drunk sometime in 2014. Unless that doesn't count as physical abuse lol

The biggest reason to not trust those articles you noted is because most of them fall under Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. umbrella, which also happens to own the Sun, which was sued for defamation by Depp. This trial hurts major publication credibility as most of them covered false information provided by leaks by Amber Heard's PR team. Thus, these publications have strong incentive to skew information to influence public perception against Johnny Depp.

Watching the trial is by far the best way to get more accurate representation of what happened. Sorry you don't want to put yourself through it, but otherwise, you'll just present an uninformed opinion.

Whitney Heard witnessed Amber striking Depp, not the other way around. Both claimed it was due to Amber looking to protect Whitney. The closest situation to Depp hurting Amber was the door incident, where he slammed it on her face, but through the recordings, it was because he was looking to get away from her in the bathroom.

Newsflash for a lot of people about victims, almost nobody is the perfect victim. Women who are victims of domestic violence often aren't the perfect spouse, but they're still victims.
