The angle looks slightly different - this time they're tied to specific characters and so the relationships have changed. I'm on board! After FF7R and playing an obscene amount of Yakuza, I am no longer skeptical of Final Fantasy as an action game. The person credited as Screenwriter, Kazutoyo Maehiro, was the main scenario writer for A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. Heavensward I would not describe as "grimdark" but it is taking cues from dark fantasy like Game of Thrones. Edgy stuff still happens, such as: a dragoon character who is a stereotypical edgelord (affectionately) kills a dragon halfway through the storyline and spends the rest of the plot literally stained red by its blood. FF16 looks like it is leaning into that a bit more. What Koji-Fox being here means is that this will happen, and then five minutes later you will get a quest named after a Simpsons reference or a meme from a decade ago. More often than not, it is either a lost civilization thing or being used by the antagonists for corruption and war. There's some notable exceptions (X inverts it - the antagonists cement rule by restricting technology) but here they're just setting up the "war is bad" motif as...war. Well Final Fantasy XIV is most people's favorite final fantasy once they play it, including mine, so it is hard to not try to suggest it to final fantasy fans. I don't even play it like I would an MMO - just strap on for the story and then unsub until I want more story (which its cool because YoshiP supports this way of playing and says it makes sense) and it is just beautiful and awe inspiring. Same director, same composer, (one of) the same writers, same localizer. I'm sure there is more staff overlap as well.
