I really dig it when the orchestration gets thick. I also didn't except Koran Shoujo to come back either! I absolutely love the proggy stuff, but I get tired of it quickly at the same time.... yet I seem to want to come back to it, anyway. Speaking of returning music, this contest really has been good to me. Photoconductity Third Tune (as part of the whole suite), Dreams in a Pie, Breath of Forest, Break the Limit, and Merciless Savior were all tracks I wanted to see back, and I didn't even help get any of them in except Dreams in a Pie! Wyrm's Jewelbox almost made it in, too. That leaves Massive X as the only one left. Maybe I'll try to get that one in next year!! As for Kusanagi Village.... absolutely amazing music. A 9.8 rating means it's expected to be in my top 50 vgm, easily. It might be my fave of the whole contest. And it has to go up against Night Birds? Really? And Treasure Town! PMD! I certainly like it, but it just doesn't compare to a lot of other PMD music. Match is tough because Time Moves Slow has good chords and good brass.... Great instrument choices here with the woodwinds, percussion, piano, and all. I love the irregular rhythms at 1:08. The percussion break in the middle is very pleasant as well. The lack of a strong motif in this makes it weaker than the other Alto songs for me, but it's a wonderful sonic experience as a whole regardless. ~~I can't believe I had to endure all 9 minutes of Soflan-chan again.~~ I imagine if the vocals were removed, I'd like this more. But as it currently stands, this is my least favorite song in the entire contest lol. The chaos combined with the vocals just makes it essentially unlistenable to me. Sorry to those who like it. Night birds is good jazz stuff. Great piano here. Nice synth lead and soprano sax too. Smooth bass work as well. I may just pay attention to the bass next time I listen to this, because there are a lot of cool little riffs throughout that may be hard to notice otherwise. Kusanagi Village is a pretty unique piece from Okami. I initially didn't like it that much when I first heard it years and years ago, but returning to it brought new light to it for me. Interesting rhythms, great soundscape, pretty solid song all-around. Probably not enough for me to favor it over Night birds though. It's unfortunate that there isn't a good quality studio version of Time Moves Slow out there. This is a great R&B piece. Roxanne Tataei (at least I believe it's her judging by some sources) does a fantastic job on the vocals. And the instrumental is great as well. Definitely my favorite song from A2 thus far.
