It's crazy how people don't think we should ban AR-15s and any gun that has no practical use.

Like it's not good for home defense and you can't hunt with it. It's literally a gun designed to kill and maim as fast as possible.

I've seen all the excuses for it. "It's not a machine gun" "it's the same as a basic hunting rifle" "the constitution says I can have one". Yet, kids are being murdered in school and were good with it as long as some people can play soldier with it.

To be honest, there's a lot to be done still in terms on gun laws that actually make sense. Weeding out criminals better, harsher, stronger punishments, more proactive approaches to monitor those that have more flags on them than an amusement park, we need to do more, and do better.

I do hope the parents of one of the victims chooses to do this, and if so I hope news outlets all over the country show them. The people who dont give a shit need to see what kind of devastation is being caused. Nothing else has made them act, maybe that will.

All I can think about are those school shooting survivors who did speak to the media and call for gun control when it happened, only for them to be called a "woke mob" and attacked by the conservative establishment like Fox News. I think it was the Parkland shootings?

The one guy who was very prominent about it was on a full-name basis with the conservative morons on CE for a while, but I can't remember his name.

Did you all not hear this the day it happened? That whole bit about "alternative methods of identifying the bodies" came out fairly quickly.

That's not to mitigate the horror of the situation but I thought the disfigurement of the children had already been established.

Why did they have a pediatrician survey the scene? I get they specialize in children and their health, but the wounds they received seems kind of beyond their expertise and would be more suited for observation by a military doctor / surgeon.

Why would they even consider sharing them unless asked though? That's images of their young loved ones and their peers and caretakers whose lives were robbed from them while their bodies were mutilated. Guns used for ill purposes and just plain evil against people obviously cause horrendous results. This isn't some situation were observers can learn anything beyond that, unlike in cautionary instructional videos about improper firearm use, driving accidents or factory / machinery accidents.

Honestly it might be worth it to release one regardless.

We are desperate for something to shock our apathetic selfish society into doing something. It would be incredibly cruel but if there is a chance it actually can tilt the scales towards action would it not be worth it? Something that forces people to see the consequences of our gun fetish, and continual failure of our children in so many ways in all its tragic visceral and horrific end result?

Sort of like a Covid Denier who ends up on a Ventilator. It doesnt make everyone see the light and its a horrible thing to experience but it certainly has changed many minds who have gone through it.

Perhaps I am being too optimistic and utilitarian at the same time I dunno. But clearly merely hearing about deaths isnt enough to effect change. Would it even work on a right wing that so readily dismisses everything as elaborate hoaxes?

The Emmet Til newspaper photos got a lot of liberals angry about what was happening in the south, so that it was harder for them to turn a blind eye to it. They didnt change the minds of any racist southerners.

In todays internet age, everyone is already highly aware of school shootings. Gory photos arent going to make anyone more aware or change anyones minds.

I was under the impression that it was one of the major catalysts for the civil rights movement.

Regardless the culture is so paranoid and divided I do not know it would have enough impact to matter.

Its still a semi-auto, which have been around much longer than the AR-15 and similar rifles. I used to own a rifle that shot .44 magnum rounds, the Ruger Model 44. According to gun control logic it is perfectly acceptable for me to own the Model 44, and even the Mini 14 that fires the .223, but a rifle with a synthetic stock and pistol grip isnt? I get people are upset and angry, as they should be. But, that anger is being directed at an object. We dont blame car manufacturers for drunk driving fatalities, I mean no cars equal no accidents right? Everyone take a bus or train.
