But it always bugged me. If Nicole was dead the entire time and Isaac was in such denial that he... flew to the station for some reason despite knowing she was dead... WTF is going on in this sequence? The door is closed and Nicole has to open it for you... But Nicole is a halluncation that doesn't exist..... but the enemies attack her and get a game over if they kill her, the same enemies also attack you... and the door is real and Nicole's non existant hallucination flat out does open it for you. So wtf how does this make any sense? On any level. It doesn't work as a metaphor, it doesn't work as reality and it doesn't work as a hallucination Is Nichole just some random survivor who Isaac is imagining as Nicole in some kind of Martin Walker situation? Because if so you just leave them behind and never think about them again which is unintentionally hilarious from their perspective Some guy, let's call her Andrea, survives all this nonsense, is surrounded by monsters,a big burly guy in armor bursts in, you open the door for him putting your life at risk so you can escape.. The Time Paradox in MGS3 was more of an Easter Egg you have to go out of your way to get and is a joke (which MGS is full of quirky 4th wall breaking jokes) It's not literal main plot events that make no sense. Naked Snake has no incentive to carve up Ocelot with a fork I don't think the comparison works. Dead Space is a horror game with 0 fun or jokes or quirk in them. The sequence is played straight and there is nothing else like it in the game. Hell in other halluncations thing attack/jump out at Isaac and they do no damage because they aren't real. "Well actually it all just didn't happen but you still get game over because game." Ok then it's a shittily written plot and a badly designed game. That's the entire point. It's not reflected in the gameplay or story displayed in the entire rest of the game. It doesn't flow and it doesn't add up. There's a reason why there's no part of Pokemon where Ash pulls out an AK-47 and mows down several Jigglypuffs and then the game continues as if nothing happened and never explains it. And your "ACtually it just didn't happen!" is just as weak a gameplay explanation there. Compare to well written games like Silent Hill 2 or Spec Ops: The Line or This War of Mine or Hellblade which do similar things but do them coherantly in a well written way because they understand atmosphere, pacing, character, plot, narrative and how it feeds into gameplay.
