I've had this sat on my shelf since release. Is it a remake of Hack Infection / Mutation / Outbreak / Quarantine? I also have those sat on my shelf but only ever played the first and a little bit of the second

No, IMOQ and G.U. are different series. G.U. takes place some years after IMOQ and while there are certainly callbacks and continuity one will appreciate if you played IMOQ it isn't necessary to follow G.U.

G.U. Is an entirely different series that's technically in the same continuity. Not required, and significantly different games.

Honestly, you get more connections from watching .Hack//SIGN that from those earlier games, I think.

It's always wierd making topics like this because I've done it like a dozen times and you never know if everyone who was gonna bite has already bitten.

I pulled the trigger. Not sure if I'll ever play it, but I've always been curious about .hack despite knowing nothing about it.
