It does say exceptions for the person being questioned/arrested, to be fair. Still a crock of shit though.

I can't imagine how that's legal if it's a public place but with the supreme court being nothing but a rubber stamp for Christian Fascists at this point I don't know that it matters.

Coincidentally, Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison today. Of which he'll probably only serve a handful, since I'm pretty sure the state sentence comes first.

I mean I kind of understand where theyre coming from, because most people recording police arent doing it because a George Floyd type thing is happening, theyre doing it because their friend or girlfriend is causing a scene during a legit arrest, and that shit is beyond obnoxious.

But at the same time Ducey is a fucking dunce so Im kind of split on this one.

That's not a large distance at all. It's basically saying you can't shove yourself into the action to get a better shot.

My only worry is cops intentionally moving closer to the person filming so they have to step further and further back.

I believe this is for random uninvolved civilians, and the people directly involved can still record.

But like others said this can easily be abused, though there is a mention that the officer has to audibly warn the person first to back up. And if they're on camera and fail to do so and abuse this new law, well, easy lawsuit.

Fair enough, but its not exactly like you can enforce civies to record every single thing a Maricopa Deputy does. Thats what a body cam is supposed to be for, but thats sketch too obviously.

But if the police are in a shootout with bank robbers then they won't have the time to warn people to step back trying to catch the police doing anything too aggressive.
