The ruling against her was so fucking garbage and required like 3 very unusual interpretations of things AND going against a precedent or two. The kids probably bought off the judge or something tbh.

Thats funny at the moment, but doesnt really make sense and its a bad joke. Sure if you dont capitulate before marriage you will lose half your stuff regardless of time being married, but..Anna Nichole just didnt deserve. Lawful or not. Spouses are lawfully entitled to the estate of the deceased. That she got absolutely nothing for several years of marriage as a result of a bullshit trial is horrible. There's nothing wrong with gold digging. I'm sure you have problems with celebrities who marry a woman then divorce her after 5 years and she gets a few million. But legally speaking, the rich spouse has an obligation to see to it that the not-rich one is taken care of. But it would have been nice of her to give us something of value other than a box of pictures and shot glasses. My dad had a huge gun collection that belonged to his father and other things of value.

Fwiw my dad didn't leave a will so legally my mom and sisters and I could have sued his second wife's family for his money and all as we were actually related by blood and the second wife was dead. Instead, they drained his accounts and insurance policy and didn't even pay to cremate or bury him so my mother covered the costs. The second family are a bunch of fucks who hadn't even been adopted.

I think its more this particular case that gets me. I dont know what really went between them, but taking it at face value it does make her look like a pretty bad human being and dont think that behavior should be rewarded. They shouldve signed a prenup or special contract giving her up to x amount. The fact that didnt happen, its also probably a sign that the old guy wasnt mentally sound.

Hell even my sister signed a prenup at my brothers in law family's request (even if they loved her) since they own a successful family business and he's the heir. She took it bad at first, but fully understood the reasons why and ended up signing.

Ok I'll elaborate and still be unclear. My dad said they were divorced before he died. I have no idea how true that was. They lived 3500 miles away from me so I didn't see them very often. I'm on the east coast.

She told me he left everything to her. Then she told my cousin he left everything to my step sister, her daughter.

So in my case I really don't know what should have happened legally. I guess I could get an attorney to check into it but my dad wasn't rich. He just had a lot of cool stuff.

There's rich old men who knew full well that the young stripper they tried to make into a housewife was only sticking around so she didn't need to swing on a pole for pocket change anymore. There's also wealthy old women who who keep a Ken Doll pool boy around fully aware he's screwing other women and will bounce the moment the cash gets cut off.

There's an argument to be made for taking advantage of the elderly who suffer from dementia, but that's not always the case. Sometimes it's just a rich old geezer looking to treat a 20 something like a comfort pet.
