So Harkonnen are bad? They have control of Arakus (sp?) but have been asked to give it up by the Emperor and give it to Atreides? But the leader of the Harkonnen thinks this is to weaken Atreides?

Also, leaders in House Atreides can control others with "The Voice"?

Dune 2019 is pretty boring. I prefer Dune 2011 and Dune 2015.

OK so...

Emperor - Needs spice as it means a lot of wealth, plus the only way to really travel through space safely.
Arachus (sp?) - Planet with LOTS of spice. Has an indigenous tribe there but the Empire still mines spice there.
House Harkennen - They were controlling the Empire's attempts to colonize and mine Arachus. Bloodthirsty assholes from the sounds of it.
House Atreides - Much better family than House Harkennen. Kinda a beacon of good for the other "noble houses". Were ordered to take command of Arachus, though to what end is a little unknown. Our protagonist is the son of the leader of House Atreides and some gal who is part of seemingly a weird cult who controls "The Voice" and follows "The Way"
The Voice - The ability to force others to do your bidding.
The Way - Group of women who use the voice. It is supposed to be ladies only but our main protagonist is trained. A destined male is supposed to come forward who can use "The Voice" and "The Way" to be super intelligent and like... lead the universe to a better future?

The only problem I have with the film so far is like all major films now, the music is 10,000 times louder than the speaking volume.

I dont recall exactly what scene you are referring to but the bene women are still subservient to the emperor and have to follow his orders.

Much of their planning has to be done in the shadows.

I really liked it, also had zero information going in.

it was confusing, and felt like the first season of game of thrones where they were just building the world.

I really, really hope it doesnt end up like other huge money movies where the sequel doesnt make any money and they cancel it before finishing it.

Baron Harkonnen is bastard man. Wants to kill Atriedes.

Paul is special amongst Bene Gesserit lineage as being a man with Other Memory, the Memory of all their ancestors, known as Kwisatz Haderach. His mother is also a part of the Bene Gesserit, specifically sent by the Reverend Mothers to breed with Duke Leto Atredies.

Bene Gesserit can determine if someone is lying, and can manipulate them using The Voice.

Excellent movie. I still prefer the Sci Fi miniseries but 2021 is really close behind. Hopefully it doesnt lose its steam and is able to explain the more mystic stuff well enough in the sequel.

Finished the film.

Loved it.

It wasn't really plodding at all. It took time to really show scale and to take it all in.
