Tag season 3 spoilers, season 1 & 2 are pretty much fair game at this point

Anyway aside from it being hilarious that Luther continues his quest to bang every potential sister I mostly made this topic to vent about Allison being literally one of the worst characters in any show I've seen.

Like she was terrible in the first season, not as bad in the 2nd, and then somehow even MORE terrible this time

i didn't hate on her too much in season 1, Luther took more of my scorn from that pairing and I at least liked that Allison still [s1] tried to protect Viktor after losing her voice, it was a welcome and needed touch of compassion against the circumstances. I don't think I really liked Diego in s1 either, probably lower than Allison as well.

but season 3 it's like wow I love everyone but really fucking hate Allison holy shit

Season 3 is quite possibly the best season aside from her.

Luther sucked S1 but Allison was as bad, possibly worse imo. Her tiny moments of compassion never felt authentic given the backstory of, like the rest of the family, she helped keep Viktor locked in the basement and she directly mind controlled his powers away from him and then proceeded to constantly put Viktor down and treat him as lesser. She never really apologizes for literally mind controlling him for his entire life, or even really recognizes that she did anything wrong

and what made it worse was in this season all the other characters talk about how Allison is the rational and level-headed one who's so nice to everybody, and it's like... what show have they been watching? Where was that Allison, because she's ALWAYS been one of the worst characters on the show. And in this season, I get it, you went through something tragic... like most of the people on the show have! But every single potential chance she has to just not be the absolute worst, she just actively chooses to be the absolute worst.

And then there's the Allison/Viktor stuff, where Allison insists she just does nothing wrong ever despite her entire power being mind control that she attempts to use to literally rape her own brother and all she gets is a stern look once in a while.

Her killing Harlan might've made sense in the context of her being infuriated he potentially cost her her child, but... it also makes it clear that's not why she did it, it was solely just like a petty revenge thing against Viktor? And not only that, she never wants recognizes the fact that she literally just killed what is basically Viktor's son, despite her entire motivation for being awful being the loss of her own child.

AND it sucks as a viewer because there was a really good plot that could've been done there, of Viktor recognizing that, while Harlan struggled in Viktor's absence, Viktor needs to be able to forgive himself under the realization that what happened in Harlan's life wasn't ultimately Viktor's fault and that Viktor is a grown adult man whose extremely harmful actions are his own. But he never gets to have that realization or acknowledgement because, again, Allison is the worst

on the bright side Klaus pretty much secured his spot as best character on the show if he hadn't already, he was like top 3 before but in S3 he's somehow even better. Hell, almost every character is better. Luther is goofier, Diego goes through a surprisingly good subplot about learning to be a father, Five is still the brains of everything but also lightened up a bit. Almost everyone is at their best here. Except Allison.

But yeah s3 has a real highlight of making every other character so likeable now which then compounds back on Allison for being such a piece of shit. I used to hate Luther & and didn't really care for Diego but now I think Luther's a pretty lovable guy and really appreciate the growth of Diego... and then Allison... fuck.

Allison's power is so overpowered, she should literally win every fight and bend things to her will. The show has to constantly go out of its way to make her ineffective. It's been really distracting. It's like the Flash all over again.

Just watched the first and last episodes of season 1 earlier today, and it was amazing how different some characters are. Luther is my favorite character in Season 3, and watching the dance clip of Season 1 only, I think maybe he wasn't so bad. But my god is he just the worst. He does everything wrong. Obsessing over dad's monocle, pretty much accusing one of his siblings of murdering ol' Hargreeves, pretty much everything when it came to Victor. The only decent thing he did in those two episodes was helping Allison reach out to her daughter, and he still was professing an undying love for Allison while talking to her kid which is just... ugh. And even worse when he completely ignores her to tackle Victor and use Allison to distract him. Diego's a jerk, Klaus is unreliable, and Five tells no one anything, but Luther is just the wooorrrsst.

I did miss Hazel and Donut Lady.

Two other notes.

One, I know Gallagher is an amazing actor now, but I didn't really realize until watching the first episode again. He's such a normal kid in the flashbacks. Like, he doesn't look any different with that uniform on besides inner age, but it's just so... stark here. It never really registered.

Two, when Victor had his four brothers and was siphoning off their energy... that was crazy similar to Project Oblivion siphoning off the seven. It was startling.

I think if I could take the dumb cringey guy out of s1 it would easily be my favorite. I really enjoyed s3 but felt that the sparrow deaths were especially "whatever". Felt nothing, and it really didn't seem like the others cared either.

I love the umbrella academy but it feels like it messes up sometimes. And thats okay.

Yeah I agree with that, some of them were interesting and felt like they could've done so much more with them, but then they just started getting knocked off one by one like it's nothing. The first time was awesome, it was a total, vicious shock that built up how insane that timeline's Grace is while also throwing everything into chaos. But then the others all have these unique, interesting powers that barely get examined. What was with poison spit girl, does she just cause hallucinations or is it more than that? How does punching bag guy work; he clearly looks so much healthier in the flashbacks so is he like actively killing himself by letting people hit him so much? WHY IS CHRISTOPHER A FLOATING ALIEN CUBE?????

Punching bag guy was pretty cool and I would've liked to see more of him!

honestly, she was a kid and therefore wasn't actually responsible. plus, it was 100% the right call to lock away those powers. hating on a young child for doing what she was told isn't super fair.

i mean, they all are horrible communicators and it frustrates me that that's the source of the drama. i blame the writers rather than the characters themselves, if that makes sense
