All the dinosaurs were female, but the frog DNA let some of them mutate to male due to the absence of appropriate mates

Hence why the guy says "clever girl" when he gets ambushed by the raptor. I think at that point they erroneously still believe that every dinosaur is female and didn't know they were breeding.

Novel Hammond is a joke character. He's like an American communist teenager's version of an old fat capitalist.

In general a lot of the novel is a joke. Like when Grant and the kids are on a raft on a river about to go over a waterfall and the T-Rex is waiting below the fall with open jaws just waiting for them to fall in.

In the movie he's much more altruistic and is just a cool grandpa who loves dinos.

I mean Hammond more fucked Nedry over by underpaying him for the job he was hired for. But even if he did pay him you still had the dinosaurs breeding and in the book the raptors were sneaking out of their paddocks and breeding so they would have been fucked.

Sounds like Nedry didnt learn from his previous financial oopsies and Hammond wasnt keen on bailing him out any further on whatever shady debts with equally shady people Dennis might have accrued.

Still shouldnt have antagonized the guy in charge of automating the majority of his dinosaur theme park though, just sayin.

Possibly but still Hammond did spare the expense there with underpaying a key employee basically responsible for the entire parks automation and coding.

BOOK and MOVIE SPOILERS

IIRC in the book Nedry still did his thing. They got power back on and everything was up and running. So they went on like nothing else was wrong. Then they realized the computer doesn't work that way and they actually didn't have power to the fences or something.

So in the book Nedry causes a problem, they fix it, but flaws in their design makes it so it isn't really fixed. The second problem was on them.

The movie, I think all problems were caused by Nedry.

Although one could argue that their problems started long before that. In the book they didn't know that the dinosaurs were breeding because they coded their software in a way that wasn't giving them the correct numbers. (They told it to search for 2 of a dinosaur and it found the 2, but didn't mention there were 4 more because of breeding because it was set to ONLY look for 2)

Put simply: No. It couldn't have survived. It was destined to fail because it is a fact that with enough time something will go wrong.

I remember in the book they restart the computer system, but the main power never turned on and they don't realize they were running on auxiliary power the whole time until it ran out of juice and fucked everything. And think the fences were offline the entire time they were on backup power too

Which I guess one of the good things about the movie universe that Jurassic Word for the most part fixed some of the problems. Outside whoever designed the Indominus Rex Paddock to only detect motion/heat instead of having the same tracking tech inside those computers. (Or just making the damn Indominus already and having Ingen do some really dumb military side plot)

Yeah that was a dumb... Creating a bio weapon on the same island as your theme park... But they needed some plot point for everything to go to hell for the movie.

As for Jurassic Park and TC's question, I've only seen the movies, but yes I think the first three were all set in motion by Nedry.

The reason the movie has Hammond state four times that he spared no expense is to let the audience know that he spent excessive amounts of money on everything... except his employees. His computer team consists of two people. The cars are all automatic.

It's more evident in the book when the character flat out boasts that the key to making a fortune is to hire as few people as possible. The novel really beats you over the head with what a capitalist bastard Hammond is supposed to be.

Yep, though only in the film adaptation, as novel Hammond was such a cheapskate that he intentionally had a handful of folks running things on the island to begin with. Still love the novelization having Ed Regis be eaten by the T-Rex instead of Gennaro, leading up to him unexpectedly having a heroic moment not only destroying the velociraptor nest later on, but also surviving the events of the first book only for an illness he caught while on a business trip to the Congo to be what ultimately winds up killing him. Also funny that Dr. Henry Wu actually gets killed in the novel as opposed to becoming the full-on supervillain he seems to have embraced in the newer Jurassic World films.
