That's not too bad

Apart from the small gap between s1 and s2 (which we dont talk about), it's been 2 years between s2 and s3 and 3 years (no big surprises there) between s3 and s4

They could've decided to speed up production with the current state Netflix is in and it could've been another 3 year wait

But yeah, it's not bad, s2 of Loki is still a year away

I think 2 years is too long between seasons when you have child actors. These kids are 18 now and supposed to be 14-15 just starting high school. Some of them are not going to look like 9th graders by the time this releases.

Idk but if there was it was a bad decision. These kids barely look like 9th graders as it stands at the end of the current season.

I mean by the time the last season releases some of them could have had kids in the grade they supposedly started the series in lol.

I don't think a couple of years will really matter too much, especially with makeup and such, I'm 25 yet still get mistaken as an older teen from time to time when I don't have facial hair. None of the kids in this latest season looked unreasonably older.

They do look unreasonably older to me. They don't look like 14 year olds. They look like 18 year olds.

Like Eddie Munson was supposed to be 18-20? He looked 25. Billy was supposed to be 17 and looked 25.

What do you mean?

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think they already look above the age range. Max is about the only one that still looks young enough to be 14.

Well, if you're talking about the age of the actors vs the characters they play who knows how far in the future s5 will be

They all looked like they hit their teenage growth spurts in the latest season.. well, except for Lucas, he looks old enough to babysit the crew

I'm not sure why anyone is assuming the next season won't take place immediately after the first?

A huge rift just opened up under Hawkins. Like how can they fast forward time through that? Is there something I've missed?

There's questions about the efficacy of the portal, considering Max is still alive. Also, there's no way her body is alive and her mind isn't. That's one of the big questions I've seen "Maybe she's brain dead". Yeah, you don't save a main character teenager in a Plucky Kids Defeat The US, Russian, and Interdimensional Governments show.

Also, FUCK, I HAVE TO LIVE ANOTHER 2 YEARS!?

This is consistent with general acting trends though. Teens are played by adults in their 20s. Young adults are played by individuals in their 40s.

I think it's kind of unfortunate because it skews people's perceptions of young people but to some extent I think it's what people want.

I know. It's annoying. I get they can't constantly film with children but maybe they should have spaced the time line between seasons in the story line already

Yeah.

One of the things I remember being kind of a big deal about Stranger Things is that it was a big sci-fi show starring actual child actors. And this kind of takes away from that.

It's just kind of obvious when they looked like actual small children in the first season and it's only supposed to have been 2 years or less in show and they look like 18 year olds.

Based on the way the last season ended they definitely won't be doing any school stuff. Bare minimum they can fudge the age association if they don't just do a full on time skip.

I just can't see how they can skip based on the firey destruction. If they don't have the time line immediately after it gives Vecna and the upside down too much time to spill over and spread in real life

time skip a decade. The whole world has been taken over by the Upside Down. Plot A follows present day post-apocalypse as Will and Blind Oracle Max try to find the missing 11 to defeat Vecna, the Mind Flayer, and the new final boss big bad which is being called Tiamat. Plot B is told in flashbacks revealing the world failing against the Upside Down and also the last D&D session our heroes played together where they fought (and failed against) Tiamat (hence the name of the new big bad).

I dont want this, but theres plenty of options a good writer could make a time skip work still. In fact, Id say its almost a trope to have time skips follow cataclysmic events/plot points.

Personally, I dont think theyre going to go a time skip route. I imagine the next season actually having the least amount of in universe time between seasons (like I picture season 5 taking place immediately after season 4), but if they wanted to do a time skip, theres ways they could go about it.

I also believe that it's going to pick up right where it left off that's why a 2 year production time with child actors is crazy

yeah, I already found it to be even a stretch this season, but if the story is good enough I can let it slide. I mean, Im watching Better Call Saul which is supposed to be a prequel but all the main actors are clearly older than they were in Breaking Bad. But everything else about the show is so good that its more than forgivable. I just hope the next season of Stranger Things doesnt have stupidly long episodes. I thought that actually did the story a disservice by having weird pacing and bloatedness at points (like that scene where Eddie, Steve, and Nancy are being choked for way too long).

Honestly, its kind of dumb they just didnt make the time skips in universe to be more analogous to the irl time gaps in the first place. Theres literally no reason each of these seasons needs to be as close in time to its predecessor as it is, aside from sticking with the 80s nostalgia shtick.

I agree with your last paragraph. They should have done 1-2 years in universe between seasons to match up with the aging
