I know people who literally came to the US as children from Russia after their parents were given living space perks by the government for having kids and instead said parents were like "we need to get the fuck outta here because we don't want our kids to have compulsory military service under the Soviet regime" and that's the entire reason why they immigrated.

I'm not surprised. At a really unrealistic minimum, 9 months per child (no twins, triplets, etc), it would take 7.5 years for a woman to bear 10 children, then add a year on the last child to collect the money for a total of 8.5 years.

One million rubles at one hundred and two months is about 9,804 rubles a month; 2,451 rubles a week, or 350 rubles a day, which google says is like 5 bucks a day.

There was a reason why they sold it to us in the first place. The Asian side/ownership of alaska was not feasible due to how much money it would cost. Even if it was an autonomous zone like how eastern russia is now (for the most part), it just wouldn't work without destroying the russian economy even before they destroyed it by invading Ukraine.

$40k is way better than I expected for modern Russia.

Even in current year, there's a reason why Moscow is russia and the rest of the country are more or less autonomos zones left to their own devices, super poor, with all the wealth filtering back to moscow. It's not feasible for even those regions to be uplifted into "russia proper", i couldn't imagine that an even further away, more hostile environment is a very appetizing load to take onto the national budget.

As for not shit politicians that aren't just Putin stooges in disguise, Ksenia Sobchak was pretty good, but she also fled at the beginning of the war, and Navalny is okay too, but he's still a Russian nationalist, and is in jail under Putin's bogus bs.

Other than those two options are pretty slim. Prokhorov was the last 'good' opposition candidate but that was 10 years ago, and he still finished third.
