LucasArts adventure games have similar unintuitive puzzle issues but at least they aren't randomly unwinnable

I miss when all your party was heroic mimes, with personalities adjusting level stat gain distribution. Dragon Quest characters just seem like the Thomas the Tank Engine to Final Fantasy's pre-CGI Arthur.

I've only finished 8 and it was decent but never really got super good. The soundtrack was not memorable either. The battle theme sounds like a fucking James Bond song.

I will never understand what people see in the series.

I get really bored by turn based games where you just choose moves and the only effect is more damage if they're weak to it.

I gave up on Dragon Quest XI when the little girl that the game insists is legal age joins your party. Both because of the gameplay and because of the character. I'm surprised that game doesn't get clowned on harder for her, it deserves to be. The wiki literally says "Age: 16-18 (physically 6)". They knew exactly what they were doing

veronica isnt sexualized at all she was just cursed to revert her age because its funny seeing a no nonsense attitude from a little girl
and dragon quest games are great
each one is a classic except for 6 which is meh

And that is a good thing. I dont get why people even play a game in a series when they expect drastic changes. You play something else if you want something else. All a new game in a series need are minor changes, and QoL changes.

I think the music in these games is terrible. Its like, cartoonish fantasy (which yeah thats basically what the series is) but idk. Compare it to the music in the FF series and its a lot better. Uematsu >>> racist dead dipshit composer
