You obviously wanted her to say something you could take a bite out of. She told you pretty clearly that social issues in games don't bother her, but direct politics does. It may not have been a detailed statement, but it's clear enough. What kind of detail were you seeking that would change the sentiment of her statement?

You're not entitled to like every type of game in existence. You have some issues to work through if seeing a cutscene or a gay person in a video game is such a gut punch of serious reality that it destroys your escapism.

I'm hope you hate literally all games that feature cutscenes/conversations or feature graphics/settings that reflect the real world. If you play a game and it isn't assaulting your brain with constant fantastical action, then you might start being reminded of the real world and get real sad.

It's so embarrassing that I play video games every day because it associates me with a bunch of entitled crybabies that can't stop crying about politics when any game isn't personally catered to their tastes. Ironic that the people who complain the most about terminally online political obsession are completely incapable of putting their real world beliefs aside, incapable of enjoying anything outside their comfort zone.

Besides, isn't establishing a character as straight or cis the forcing of political agendas down our throats? Why is the anti-political crowd so quiet and accepting when those identities are put into fictional media?

Seriously who cares? In a functioning democracy with free speech, if you don't like something, don't buy it. Or don't watch it, or don't play it. But that doesn't mean other people don't like it.

I don't like vapid otome games, and I find them kind of irritating and insulting, but I'm totally fine with other people wanting to play them.

They don't want to be preached to. It's fine when it's subtle and actual good writing. If it's just a soapbox telling the audience they're bad people if they don't agree, that's a problem.

I want to know what poltiics you're talking about. Also, maybe you shouldn't discuss video games if your only exposure is reading articles of people complaining about SJWs and a mythical wasteland of gameplay-less games screeching that you're a bad person.

These are the people that think GTA is apolitical since they agree with some of the messaging.

It also doesn't help when "the message" takes precedence over good gameplay.

You have misread what I said or at least had some fun twisting it round. I don't remember going on about every game having to be tailor made to me, in fact I was saying it's good to identify the ones that aren't. I said if a game is going to be excessively cinematic to the detriment of replay value or if devs and reviewers are going to tell me that it doesn't matter the gameplay is bad because of some message they deem more important than the gameplay of a video game then I'm walking.

I do value the escapism aspect but again, I want the game to last above all. I don't want a slow, sterile walk through a hallway while I am told how the devs are feeling about contemporary issues that might become dated quickly. I don't want to be punished for replaying a game like that with the same unskippable segment subjected to the law of diminishing returns. Something like New Vegas is fine because I'm very happy with the gameplay and the decision making comes at you fast. It's gritty, brown, violent and has a very small soundtrack but also there's questions for each run. What build? What goals? North, north-east or east? Rational human being or all-purpose Cazador puncher? I am only very slightly impeded by things like talking to Doc Mitchell at the start, watching the Securitron upgrade on a House/Yes-Man run and even the crashes are manageable since you're back in and playing again so fast.

If the game isn't going to hold up the best course of action is to watch it on Youtube if you're really interested, not tell them with a purchase that you might want more. Video games were a good deal for a while and I'm disappointed with their constant attempts to deceive me and the rest of the demographic with all this oscar bait, bells and whistles.

I just think most stories and games are garbage and don't want to watch a bad or subpar Netflix show.

I play games for gameplay, probably why roguelikes/roguelites are some of my favorite games ever.

Most of us are well versed in how Rand is a complete waste of paper, so having a story based on her writings makes it fairly evident. It's sort of like how children's movies will have jokes that are for parents in them.

And for everyone else: seasteading is political. While "gays/trans are political" is just bigotry, from the ground up Bioshock is *extremely* political.

Both dunkey and Yahtzee pointed this out in their reviews. Dunkey was surprisingly harsher.

Once people got over the visuals, the entire selling point falls flat because the player being a cat doesnt matter, since the plot would rather treat them like another robot.

Though youd be correct in thinking that wasnt the majority of peoples complaints. Most were concerned about the game being short and linear (and not worth the price tag of $30), or the plot being shallow, not that being a playable cat loses its novelty in the first ten minutes or that the game itself is streamer bait like Untitled Goose Game.
