Like, if there was more than one universe, hell infinite universes, why exactly do people think there are other versions of us on them? Infinite versions? That seems a bit farfetched, even if there were infinite universes I feel like they would all be wholly original.

If there actually is any sense of infinity in reality, then everything exists.

There are only a finite number of ways for particles to combine.

In an infinite universe, they will combine the same way an infinite number of times.

It's like if the universe is a monkey with a type writer, and we're Shakespeare. With infinite monkeys, there would be infinite Shakespeares.

The problem is you aren't truly comprehending infinity. You're confusing infinity with "a lot"

In physics it's just a theory that - per the math - an infinite number of universes could have been generated during the big bang. As said above, if truly infinite then there should be some (an infinite number, actually) that are exactly like ours but "insert small change here". Actually there should be an infinite number exactly like ours, also. And an infinite number of universes which are only different from ours because I misspelled the word "physics" in my first sentence.

Frankly it's so wide open I don't find it as interesting as many people seem to. Infinite is so infinite that if one universe blew up entirely it would make no difference as there are infinite more (and an infinite number of them are blowing up every second). It's impossible to care about IMO. And they may or may not exist in the first place and we will never know. And if our own universe is infinite (still a possibility) there should be infinite planets exactly like Earth out there anyways.

Really, though, I highly doubt that anything about the universe is mathematically infinite to this silly degree.

If a multiverse exists: it's a mathematical theory with no observational evidence whatsoever.

That's consistent with most scientific thought, although there has been some degree of backsliding on what we thought we knew about the big bang of late. I'm just pointing out that nothing in astronomy/physics is as settled as people like to believe at times.

There's every variant of every event ever across the infinite universes. It's part of the bullshit hardcore math nerds use to explain quantum mechanics.

Because their number is infinite all possibilities are represented.
Universes that hold no similarity to this one.
Universes that are entirely identical to this one.
Universes that are entirely identical to this one except an asteroid in a star system you have never heard of is facing the other way.
Universes that hold no similarity to this one except it has that same asteroid and it's facing the right way.
(keep in mind this universe has no common frame of reference to determine which way the asteroid is facing, and there's no reason an asteroid would exist given how different the universes are, but all possibilities are represented so somehow it just is)
And everything in between.

I'm actually all about this. Also, im pretty sure there are many questioning the big bang altogether now. Our understanding is still extremely limited and we'd be arrogant to assume we have any real clue as to what the beginning actually was or if there even was a beginning at all. The scientific community pretty much concluded big bang based on it being a plausible explanation for a few things we've observed. It's likely nowhere near the truth

I would say we have some real "clues" and some plausible theories. But yes, assuming that any of those big picture theories is THE truth is definitely premature. We have some evidence, but not enough to be nearly as certain that, for example, the earth rotates around the sun.

There's a continuum between crackpot theory and demonstrable proof.

Infinite universes makes existence truly meaningless. Life is just a false perception based on reaction to chemical stimuli, until that reaction can no longer be sustained. Everybody dies eventually and nothing matters. Eat Arby's.

wtf does wholly original mean? You mean like completely different? fuck that. There is another universe where I decided to eat a burger today instead of chicken nuggets and that is the only difference.

I don't think pie is infinite, no. That would be pretty cool, except that the universe would become filled with nothing but pie. That probably isn't good.

I think the idea is that for every (quantum) 50/50 chance it actually happened in another reality, so from the moment I started typing this an infinite number of universes branched off, so there would be infinite mes finishing this sentence.
