World's falling apart seemingly and you choose a wheelchair? Idk anything about FFVII except Sephiroth is the big bad, has a cool song and I'm presuming becomes a psuedo-God based on the form you fight in Theatrhythm and Aerith dies. The rest is literally what's in that video. Oh and that some guy grinded to Lv 99 in the first area.

Oh and whatever is in the Event Video for FFVII Advent version of One Winged Angel in Theatrhythm Curtain Call but that video is decidedly more actiony.

The background visuals are mostly impressive vistas and the big spoiler of the game, but there's one two second clip of Tifa pushing Cloud and hauling ass between a train crash and a meteor coming for the planet.

If I play the game, what's the best way to experience it? Or what version/experience should I avoid?

I'd avoid the remake if it's your first time playing. Without spoiling it too much, it very much assumes you've played the original.

The game is on Steam, but I'd actually recommend the PS4 port if you can play that one. It includes a few cheat codes which helps with the "this game was made in 1997" issue. Simply by clicking the analog sticks in various combinations, you can turn off random encounters, triple the game speed, or just activate god mode.

just don't play the '98 PC port, it has MIDI bgm and add mouths on the character models for some reason.

This. The PS-era Final Fantasies occasionally cut corners by superimposing their in-game character models onto FMV backgrounds, and that approach has...uhh, aged poorly. This is doubly true for 7's blocky bugged-eyed chibis. That scene in question is particularly bizarre because iirc the character models were fully rendered, but for some reason they stuck with the chibi models instead of swapping them out for the more lifelike models used in most other FMV cutscenes.

Food for thought, I actually have to help people with various disabilities with filling out applications and lease documents, and a big thing corporate puts on us is that unless someone says they cant do something, stay out of it.

I think it's funny out of context because of how random and unexpected it is. Imagine a typical action movie trailer starting The Rock. It all focuses on his typical badassery, and fighting off badguys with guns empty-handed. Then for 1 second right in the middle, he's just randomly in a wheelchair being pushed by his friend and dodging explosions.

It's just so out of place, and ridiculous with no context that it seems silly. It's not that people in wheelchairs are funny, but the unexpected and unexplained randomness of the situation.

Sorry man, this was actually a pretty cool topic before stuff.

You should TOTALLY play this game though! To be completely honest, its aged pretty roughly in spots, and there are some real slow sections, but it's one of those games and stories that sits well in your stomach afterwards. It's a cultural touchstone for a reason!

I don't think it's so much context of the scene itself as the way it's animated, and the animators' choice to use the chibi models for it. I think a more apt comparison would be a Rock action movie that suddenly cuts to a 20-second clip of stop-motion comedy show like Robot Chicken or Moral Orel. Looked fine in 1997 because FMV was new and we were all wowed by it, but that scene in particular has aged like egg salad.
