We got a PowerXL Vortex(the basket kind)

What are your favorite things to make in an air-fryer?

Really happy with it so far. Preheats in 5 mins, and cooks appetizers in like 10 mins or under.

Chicken cooks well in it. The frozen kind, but breasts and thighs turn out really well too. Salmon.

In b4 5 people tell you it's just a convection oven.

I use mine a lot, I have a couple of them.

chicken strips (rare) 18$ per bag for 6 meals
spicy french fries (common) though only for 4-5 days in a month
breaded chicken patty (common) pretty much dinner almost every night

i have a chance to get other things with my spare dollar at costco but favoring fruit preserves for pancakes.

Yes, but the fan is what gives it that fry, rather than hot still air.

I think the preheat thing might be kinda optional.

usually when I take the basket out to fill, its open for like 2 mins anyway.

maybe Ill just try throwing it straight in next time

i thought i was missing the bus on air fryers for the longest time until i discovered that they are the same thing as the convection setting on my toaster oven which i've had forever, even before air fryers became the new big craze.

my favorite thing to cook in there is bacon on a broiler pan with the bottom covered in foil. it comes out so good, and it's really easy to reclaim the bacon grease strained into a small mason jar.

but maybe it doesnt matter, since the air is moving around

Mine doesnt really circulate well in the bottok enough to not shake.

Want to splurge on an air fryer that has heat sources both sides for better results

I usually just use mine for bar food, but I've made other stuff -- chicken-fried steaks, taquitos, pizza rolls, etc. -- and it's all been pretty good. The only thing I hate about air fryers is how annoying it is to clean 'em, so I put tinfoil at the bottom so all the gunk is easily removed. Can't do much about pizza rolls exploding, though.

Game changers IMO:

1) Chicken wings. Deep fried are still best, but this is a big jump from baked.
2) Tater tots. I hadn't made tots in like 20 years since I never bought them. But I read they were awesome air fried and that delivered.
3) French fries. The thicker the better. Shoe string aren't great IMO. Steak fries or crinkle cut are great.
4) Hot pockets. Yes, hot pockets.
5) Apple chips and banana chips
6) Veggie medley (broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, carrots, asparagus are my faves).

I do chicken wings a couple times a week, 225 for 25 minutes to dry out the skin, then 450 for 30 minutes to get them extra crispy then toss in whatever hot sauce, works great.

Ok, just holes in the ones you'd like to eat that doesn't involve scraping the exploded remains off the inside of your fryer.
