Depends on your country, and if you're American by state (Adoption is, for the most part, controlled by state law, and these laws vary considerably from state to state.).

I've heard adoption is strict. You may just have to adopt a dog.

Yea, I heard that too.

Ive always wanted a little one. And I dont mind adopting. But I feel like itd be hard for me.

Dogs dont live long enough and I honestly cant handle that tbh. I cried when my pumpkin started to rot in high school. I thought it was fake and named it and drew a face on it and everything. Then it started dying and I had to bury it.

Im way too sentimental lol.

Dogs live for like 13-15 years. I'd suggest a longer-living pet like a tortoise that can live 50+ years, but that's even further from a human.

Almost impossible if you want a baby/newborn unless you have a relative wanting to place their kid with you, or you're rich.

^the fuck does that mean?

Also to answer the question in the topic title, as an adopted person, I don't really know. The screening process is not the same now as it was almost 40 years ago, or in my brother's case, just over 30 years ago... but whatever it is, it is. That's the best info I can offer and it's probably shit.
