I never really got the hype for Makoto. Why does she care about her friends studying and passing their exams so much.

Haru should have joined earlier tbh. She had the best confidant storyline out of the Thieves but barely gets to do anything in the main plot. She joins during the Phantom Thieves Morgana drama and then spends the rest of the game when the gang is always talking about it being their one last big job lol

This is wrong. Kamoshida was trying to pressure her into having sex with him, but after she refused it's implied that he raped Shiho, hence why she attempted suicide.

I saw it as him succeeding but not getting far enough. Like he wanted home run but only got a couple bases.

Its still a power dynamic thing. Im not really keen on all of the adult romances in 5 just because of Jokers age either (idk how old he is because Japan obviously does high school differently from us, but hes not in his last year of high school). 4 I dont think lets you date someone who isnt a student for example

Factor in the fact that they being her friends who are also important to her as well... Plus, someone [Ryuji] failing big time could impact them as a group. The whole point is to not stand out. Ryuji isnt going to ace his exams, but the point is to not fail them because that calls attention to him and might have him put on probation or something (its a school you have to pay tuition to as far as I know; Yoshizawas honor student status is important for this reason).

Ryuuji's the best male confidant in P5 by far.

Cops on Iwai's door absolutely makes sense considering his backstory and the rest of the social link.

his shadow says Ann wouldn't take care of his needs so he had Shiho take her place. There's also the shrine to her and the students saying they hear weird sounds coming from his office sometimes

Theres a difference between bombing on an exam and outright failing the course. Also I am sure she just doesnt want her friends ruining their futures too, because while they have adventures in the metaverse, they live in the real world.

Yeah, there's a big jump from depressed to kill herself the next day, considering Kamoshida beating her isn't unusual. The female section of his palace basically points it out as well.

The game is busy shitting on him for being dumb most of the time. That thing after the boat palace is still incredibly disappointing.

I get it. I just find it obnoxious when she kills several of those text group chats by saying everyone needs to study or whatever.

I get it for the purpose of the game. There needs to be a reason they aren't texting all of the time. I think a few of these characters fall into that trap.

Ryuji and Ann are dumb so there's opportunities to explain things to the player (which makes them seem really stupid as the game likes to re-explain what is happening to the player over and over again).

Morgana and Makoto explain the Metaverse, their plans and give a general agency that Joker can't really have because Joker can't talk.

I think it overall harms the flow of the group overall because these characters are very much stuck in these roles. It makes them seem more dumb or obnoxious than I think is overall intended.

I would not say us... most people finish high school at 16/17 where I live and judging by what I see on tv. Some people are still in high school at 19. I think the characters are 16 though

The high schools in these games at least, have 3 years of education. Instead of 4 in the US schools I know.

it is also important to remember that Japanese people love archetype characters just like we love our archetypes. Morgana may be annoying to us, but to the intended audience, the Japanese, they love him. Some of the PT's being 1 dimensional is just a cultural thing

See I feel like with Personas writing on how they treat players like idiots by repeating so many things (to the point I speed past through everything except the social links and the voice acted parts), they would have explicitly mentioned rape.

i think it's just in line with all the other sexual references in persona. They never outright say you have sex with the women you romance but to adults it is obvious. Probably not wanting to be overly explicit in game

That part where that hacking group has the deadline and there's a long stretch of just socializing was so god damn obnoxious with the amount of repetitive dialogue.

You really notice how redundant those returning home messages are when you get so many of them in a row with only repetitive dialogue about 'what is Wedjet/Phantom Thieves going to do?' between them.

Oh yea, I literally skip through all that.

the weird thing is the dialogue is not even needed to pad the runtime. Skipping almost all the dialogue still had a fresh run at like 70 hours

Youre overly simplifying things. Madarame mistreated and abused his pupils, not to mention literally let Yusukes mom die. Werent others driven to suicide? And with Kaneshiro - yeah drugs and extorting but also he was gonna literally pimp Makoto out. Futaba dealt with suicidal depression and hallucinations to the point she was gonna die if they didnt save her.

Futaba has a ton to do with the plot, and actually has to do with the threat they were facing then. That palace is a major plot pivot point and idk what to say if you think it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things

They're just as significant issues as the start lol.

Madarame basically controlled Yusuke's entire life and kept him poor enough that he doesn't have any easy escape from his situation, the fact that the only reason he's surviving after is he's a great artist that has a scholarship. Oh, and drove one of his pupils to suicide, and ruined the others.

Kaneshiro ruins the lives of school children, considering Japan's stance on crime(no outs), not to mention where girls end up with that much debt and connections to a syndicate.

Futaba just existed because she didn't kill herself, getting blamed for her mother's death(which she genuinely ended up believing), and the reason her mother dies to a plot related issue.

The next part, the Okumura arc, has the worst plot, worst dungeon, most annoying boss, most underdeveloped Phantom Thief AND the worst Palace theme.

But it's also followed up by arguably the best part of the entire fucking game.
