Restarted this game after figuring out its a social sim and not like a set story / open world RPG, and I think the game is a lot better with that mindset.

Im at 6/24, just finished the 3rd palace and Makoto seems like the best character so far.

Ryuji is just an annoying character with no likable features and I dont care about his sports background at all.

Ann is a ditsy idiot shes so forgettable; I dont remember anything about her except she tries to help her friend.

Yusuke is a little pretentious, but hes okay. I havent started his social thing yet.

Morgana is annoying as hell.

Makoto is like the only likable character so far. She has a Im not useless! moment and she seems genuinely nice and caring, unlike everyone else so far.

Im surprised youve made it through this far into the game not liking the characters. You spend so much time with them due to the social sim half Morgana is easily the worst in the game tho, for sure

Oh yea, I forgot about the side characters-
Disgraced politician- dont give a shit.

Doctor- has a queen of the dead vibe going; she seems nice. Weird backstory so far though she accidentally led to someone getting killed or something with research, and now shes like I dont want to be a doctor anymore?

Maid Teacher- this is a wtf lol. Definitely Japanese game for sure. I think its comical how she switches back and forth from lovey dovey talk to a mother like concern.

Student Detective- I really dont give a shit about this dude. His status makes no sense why would a high school kid even be a detective?

Gun store owner- Selling fake guns is tough and scary? LOL. REAL gun stores arent scary or tough in anyway! This whole hide this fake gun from the police is comical.

Fan Site Operator- I dont care about him at all. At least the social links are automatic.

Sojiro- I like him and want to learn more about him!

I love Ryuji. Whoever voiced him put their whole Ryujussy into their acting. I love the scenes with Joker + Mishima + Ryuji together, they always make me crack up.

It's the voice change. Original Japanese VA for Igor died, so they just went a new direction for him, both Japanese and English.

Guns are heavily regulated in Japan. There aren't tons of gun stores like in the US. So he sells illegally modified airsoft guns. There's more to him than that though if you keep going. I actually really like Iwai.

I always think of Makoto from BlazBlue when I see the name. Then Date from Yakuza.

I liked that voice too a lot, but in the Royal arc it got kinda weird esp. with the showtime dialogue like.... calm down bro

Yes, he's impulsive and not very bright, but he's probably the most loyal and passionate Phantom Thief and I gotta respect it

Regarding the gun shop guy, guns are ridiculously regulated in Japan. It's like how toy guns have to have that orange cap on the end, lest someone use one to stage a robbery.

The gun shop guy modifies guns to appear much more realistic for the collector's market, and that can absolutely get him fined up the ass and/or arrested. It seems silly, but those guns he's making are legitimately contraband that could land him in prison if the worst were to happen.

Believe me Im at the end of July now and Teddie is awful too. Its just for the first half of the game you can forget that hes there. Im sure he will get worse though.

I thought teddie was kind of funny until certain events--then it stopped being funny and got infuriatingly tiresome

I don't know much about Teddie, but Morgana being a hypocritical asshole during the Okumura arc soured me on him

I actually liked Teddie, he was a goofball. And most of the Morgana hate comes from 2 things:

1. In vanilla P5, the game would force you to rest a lot for the first few weeks and that fact was relayed through Morgana. So it was like "Screw you Morgana! Stop forcing me to go to bed!"

2. How he acted during the Okumura Arc

After playing the batting cages the other night to get the Home Run thieves den unlock, I've gone from disliking Morgana to absolutely wanting to strangle that fucking cat to death. He never shuts up.

It's that he abandons everybody, even Joker. His closest friend. Who right up until that moment happens Joker can even try asking him what's up and being 100% on Morgana's side. And he will still act like a bitch to you as if you didn't do squat for him. The time lost being able to do anything while he's gone most certainly does not matters either. It's clearly forced drama for the sake of forced drama.

Ohya should be last. And I really like Futaba as a character, but not for a romance.

I mean Ive only played Royal and I hate the cat. Its not difficult to see why. He still locks you in Leblanc too much (even when he isnt there). He wont shut the fuck up about Ann (this is an improvement on Teddie who acts weird to all of the female characters, which gets worse after a certain event in the summer - but I still have 0 patience for it). The wanting to be human thing gets annoying because he brings it up so much. Human him just feels insanely wrong too, just like human Teddie does.

He is legitimately an asshole to Ryuji the whole game which makes it worse. Ryuji goes off once and all of a sudden Morgana acts like the victim when hes been pushing him for half a year.

Yeah, Ryuji is miles better than Morgana. Both as a character and as a party member.

i don't even use Morgana in my party he is outclassed by like everyone else. His mediocre wind skills aren't worth taking up a slot as anything he can do joker can do better, i mean whats the highest he gets... garudyne or something?

Makoto is just a better healer/Support too. Plus Nuclear is one of the best elements for technicals.

Same reason why I find the Kawakami thing weird; the first arc of the game (rightfully) villainizes Kamoshida, then lets you date your homeroom teacher.

This is wrong. Kamoshida was trying to pressure her into having sex with him, but after she refused it's implied that he raped Shiho, hence why she attempted suicide.

It didn't for me until my third playthrough of the game, where it suddenly just hit me like a ton of bricks that that's probably what happened.

I've only just finished the 1st dungeon and I think I'm in love with Ann, shes lovely.

Ryuji is cool, I can't stand that obnoxious cat though.
