If you were wondering: #2 is most common at farmer's markets. "Paper" refers to anything printed on paper - so cash or cheque. And "plastic" payments include anything involving credit or debit cards, including Google Wallet. Food stamps may vary by state but I presume that's usually plastic.

I typically do small trips over large ones, so I pay with plastic, bag with plastic. Occasionally I'll have larger purchases, for the holidays or such, which will become pay with plastic, bag with paper, but not often.

Now that I think about it, the only store that offers paper around here is WinCo, which is basically an employee owned warehouse style grocery store that typically offers promotions for holiday shopping (spend X amount and get a free turkey), which is probably why I equate paper to holiday shopping.

Bring my own bags, which are neither paper nor plastic.

Yeah, should've included the reusable bag option. My bad. I reuse plastic bags much of the time because of how portable they are.

I guess reusable bags are plastic, so pay plastic and bag plastic. I hated having to buy reusable bags until I realized how much more weight they could handle.

Pay with plastic, bag with resuable bag or plastic bag if I forget to bring it. I use to just use plastic bags all the time but they introduced a law in 2019 that forced stores to charge for them (like 5 cents or so). I guess it worked on me at least!

they stopped doing plastic bags in most places here so yeah. i also mostly (like 90% of the time now) order online and i guess the rest of the time i'm just like half and half cash or card so also yeah shrug

Oh, I didn't think about it, but I generally use Apple Pay when possible.

self checkout if available, card transaction, bag with my own reusable bags (my city banned plastic bags and I walk so I will not carry paper bags long distances from underneath because fuck that. Sometimes places charge for handled paper bags. I have a few that I reuse for as long as they hold up, but my other sturdier reusable ones are the main ones I use)
