Admittedly there is a decent amount of evidence that there are people who spoil the generosity of others for those who could genuinely benefit from it.

I actually wish I could be more open-minded about it but I've been burnt by it in the past myself so it always sticks in my head that people just aren't what they're claiming to be.

The counter Ive heard for this is, dont give them money. Have two bags in your car that contain water and non-perishable food items to give out. Doesnt stop them from trading them, but at least you tried

Inflation has actually made it easier to give to panhandlers. Before it was like "nah dude, that's my mcdouble money." Now I'm just like "pshaw, wtf am I gonna do with a dollar anyways? Take it!"

if they are aggressive then it can be seen as forcing.

And if they are a fake beggar then no one is forcing them to beg but they are anyways. If they dont want people to be bitching, they shouldnt be a fake beggar in the first place

i see the same beggar every few months and he is always asking for big macs and a five note, i ask what the five note is for and he says so he can buy a phone. he told me he'd have a phone by now if he had gotten a five note for every big mac.

I honestly never carry/use cash. If I have cash its because someone at work insisted on paying me back for lunch I picked up or something trivial. I never use the cash so if I pass a beggar I just give it to them.

since I normally dont carry cash if I pass a beggar outside a gas station or something Ill generally ask if theyre hungry/want anything inside.

also idrc if theyre actually homeless or not at the end of the day theyre someone begging in the street. And its not like Im financially hurting

At the end of the day theres only so much I can do. Personally I believe in helping those who need it but I dont have the time or resources to vet beggers. If I see them begging and I have cash on me Ill give them some. Might some of them be faking it? Possibly but I cant exactly tell them apart and I dont care to. Like I said regardless theyre someone begging in the streets. Its below freezing here. If theyre not homeless but their best option is to stand outside in shitty clothes asking for money I still feel bad for them
