Seriously. it wont kill you to take a couple days off to recover from your sickness and not spread your nasty germs around at work

Its especially ridiculous that day care workers would go to work sick and spread their nasty germs. Its the whole reason my daughter is sick with a fever and cant go to daycare.

No sick leave aint an excuse because you should have saved your money to begin with so that you can afford to take enough time off to recover from your nasty germs

And why would you say that? People at work shouldnt have to get germs spread to them because of selfish reasons

"I don't care if you have the flu. Blow your nose and come in anyway. You can't let the team down." - something a manager literally said to us once.

That's why.

Because despite the fact that people shouldnt work while sick most workplaces in the US will still penalize workers if they arent able to get someone to cover their shift

"Sometimes you will have to work sick. Its just what has to be done"

One of my managers said to the group when people were calling out while sick. We had a special "meeting" just for that.

We were working food service, so it would make sense to call off while sick. After that pep talk from the DM, people would come in, sick as a fucking dog and the customers would see and complain. The cashiers would straight up say "our DM told us we had to come in sick. sorry". It got so bad that HR had to intervene

a lot of jobs will force you in anyways. mine for covid was all like "if you feel sick stay home" but then still giving you red marks for calling off.

lot of jobs don't give sick time and being sick doesn't stop you from having to pay your bills. a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck so you gonna tell your landlord you were sick and had to take a week off work and that's why you're late on rent?

For my part, because my not being there kneecaps those who work under me. That said, I will get tested before I come in and make every effort not to expose others (people looked at me weird last time because I wore a facemask even though I tested negative).

Also TC, as the father of a 5-year-old girl, being at daycare, your daughter was gonna get sick either way. Kids are experts at sharing germs. My daughter has been in and out of sickness all school year.

Many people have jobs where they don't get paid sick days. They literally can't afford to call in sick.

On the flip side, maybe someone has a job with a finite amount of paid sick days, but they have exhausted those sick days, and now every sick day used results in non-payment, or require a doctor's note, and the employee may even be written up for taking excessive sick days.

Maybe someone has a job that has a probation period, where they have to come in every day for a certain timespan (6 mos., a year, whatever), or risk having their probation extended, or worst case, risk termination.

Perhaps it merely depends on the severity of the illness. Some people may feel they can simply power through the day, even though they're not feeling their best. Hopefully, they take appropriate measures to mitigate spreading the illness to others.

yeah, gotta go to work sick when the company gives you zero PTO and the bare minimum vacation days, all requiring advanced notice longer than 24hr. Bills aren't going to pay themselves if my cheque is light due to missing work.

Yea if I call in I dont have job. Had a procedure done and was told that since it wasnt work related injury I would be penalized for not coming in despite the work restrictions, so a minor sick day is definitely not being excused.
