He was a good actor when given the chance or the right roll but he came from a different era. The era of the movie star. Where the star was the big draw for people to see the movie. I've never seen any John Wayne movies from beginning to end. I've seen a clip of one of them that was on TV at the time where he was in a standoff with some people and his character has a heart attack right then and there as he's holding the gun and the whole thing was such a horrible acting job that I was stunned anyone ever had anything positive to say about this guy. I watched True Grit (1969) for the first time during the pandemic. The 2010 version is so much better. Bridges' Rooster Cogburn is so much better. I guess I liked how the 1969 version seems to take place during spring/summer, but I do think the fall/winter setting of the 2010 version fits the story better. It's the only John Wayne film I've ever watched but I wasn't impressed. I guess 50-60 yrs ago he was better. And I fully realize that the actors of today, as well as the screenwriters and directors and everyone else involved all have grown and improved and built on what came before... ...like John Wayne and the vastly inferior version of True Grit. --- THE TOPIC KILLER he/him, Antifa, BLM, Pro-Mask, Pro-Vax, All Cops Arbees ...
