What the fuck does sideloading mean?

Am I not downloading to my ipone if I'm using a third party store to do so?

Now let's see how painfully inconvenient they're going to make the process to spitefully comply with the EU ruling.

Keep in mind this was the same company that stopped putting chargers in the box when the EU mandated they stick to the standard and then claimed it was about the environment.

Big hmm. This kind of sucks because it may invalidate the iOS security model. I hope they can do this and still sandbox applications otherwise you will have random sideloaded app listening in to events from your banking one.

Installing apps from a third-party installer or on your own.

It means putting an app install on your phone (on android phones they're .APK files) and running it directly rather than going through the official app store.

More fundamentally, it means Apple can no longer block people from developing iPhone apps and then releasing them directly.

Only way to get apps on the phone normally is to use the App Store. This ruling stops them from forcing people to go that route and just put whatever on it?

jail breaking allows you to side-load apps but also muck with the OS to make it easier to spoof your location (appear like you are in EU or whatever, etc).

Apple has good engineers so again I trust they will put sandboxing and security restrictions in place.. but as software and OS changes over time there can certainly be new attack vectors introduced which unmonitored side-loaded apps may be positioned to exploit those vulnerabilities.

I don't care about iOS. Let me sideload stuff on the Switch without having to use a silly jig.
