perhaps some parents choose nonpublic education because public schools have poor quality stemming in part from top-down mismanagement by bureaucrats out of touch with the realities of the day-to-day education process

Abolishing private schools sounds like a bad idea unless the government is willing to provide differential schooling to those who might desire something a bit different than the standard experience.

Well, I used to work at a school that didn't do exams and had music as an element in a lot of classes unrelated to music.

I assume documentation centers is meant to be indoctrination centers.

Public schools are indoctrination centers as well, it has its sacred cows you are meant to just accept and nod your head to, same as the religious schools.

It's a very deliberate choice with her and others like her. Public schooling is a bureaucratic mess with overreaching administrations because they were designed to fail by those that want to push private and religious schooling.

I'd rather pay for my child to receive a quality education than let them attend a failing public school where the government throws money at what is effectively a sinking ship that just goes deeper year by year.

It's the former. The right are anti-education for the poor and only want rich children to get it. They want the poor kept stupid because they're more easy to manage and manipulate.

while there's an observable correlation between political affiliation and higher education, especially postgraduate, there is no such correlation between political inclination and public education performance on a per-county basis.

One reason I can see in favor of not wanting a private school option is that you'll force upper class families to only choose the public schools in their district and it'll force them to have a vested interest in the public school system and hopefully it leads to them supporting the system in some capacity.

That being said, as someone who transferred from a... very lax university to an extremely competitive university where I was learning things in my 3rd year where my peers at 2nd university had learned in HS, if I have kids, I am not putting them in public school. I want to fucking win. I want my kids in a school room of other kids who are raised by parents who would sell their kidneys or go on 4 hours of sleep per night if it guaranteed their kids have a stellar education.

I'm being exceptionally hyperbolic but where I live, we have too many parents who expect the school to teach kids everything when half of your education is influenced by what goes on in your house. This means something as simple as reading to your kids and not letting them live on their iPad (or in my day, in front of the TV). I want my kids to be doing algebra by the first grade, so it's not gonna fly with me if I have to have my kids waiting for the rest of their class to catch up.

No. Just make the board of education give all of the Federal and State money to the public schools.
