Could you date her?

They broke up after a long term relationship but rent and bills be whack yo so they decided to stay living together to cut costs.

She says it was a mature and mutal break up and they're still friends.

That situation - no. But I did start dating someone who was still living with her husband. They were separated and initiating divorce. She moved out about 2 or 3 weeks after we started dating.

If the guy isn't some complete tool, sure. I've stayed friends with exes, so I get it.

This is like the same situtation just they were smart enough to not get married

Kind of, but not exactly. This was a clear end to the marriage and she was in the process of finding somewhere. In your example, they've just decided to stay together to save money.

Also, your "smart enough" comment is dick-ish.

Not trying to begrudge your ex but not every long term relationship needs to get married.

Sometimes it is a sign of intelligence or at least awareness of the realities of emotion to realize being happy in the moment doesn't defacto mean you'll be happy in 5/10 years.

Not trying to be a dick but from my perspective being judgemental of the girl who didn't get married in that situation but defending the girl who did get married in the same situation is odd. The distinction is either irrelevant or more in the not married favor.

Um, I wasn't judgmental of anyone. I just don't want to date someone who is planning to keep living with her ex after a breakup. You are making this into a marriage thing, I'm not.

And btw, she was with her ex husband for over a dozen years and I was with my ex wife for about 20 years. Until you have to deal with the experience of thinking you are spending the rest of the life with someone, to then have it crumble away, you really shouldn't comment. You have no idea how hard that is. And thinking intelligence has anything to do with it paints you in a really bad light. I could understand if somebody got married really early in the honeymoon phase that that is not super smart, but that is not the case.
