i wanted all male pokemon when i was younger and then after a while i wanted 3 males and 3 females

If pokemon were trying to mimic the realitiy of animals, some would have bigger/stronger males and some would have bigger/stronger females. We kinda see this in how, for some mons, only the females evolve (Salazzle, Vespiquen, etc...) but in terms of gameplay, Pokemon does this sexually suspect thing of, if your avatar is male, the females are better, and vice versa if your avatar is female.

Because Gold/Silver was built on top of Red/Green's foundation, they used the Pokemon's DV's (IV's back then) to determine a Pokemon's gender, as well as whether or not they could be shiny. This had the side-effect of having female Pokemon have lower Attack stats than their male counterparts, because gender was determined by the Attack DV. Also, because of this and the aforementioned shininess, some female Pokemon outright could never be shiny legally.

Of course, they completely overhauled the core mechanics for Ruby/Sapphire, so this is no longer an issue.

Yeah that is why I tried to get male pokemon when gen 2 came out. The males had higher attack DV.
