Im tired of my friends gaslighting me. I want to hear if a friend taking eleven days to respond to a text is normal or unusual.

No, that's about how long it takes me to respond to someone's text.

Often times if I dont want an actual conversation, I just text a question for an update.

And honestly, it wouldnt bother me much if folks didnt address the lack of responding with My bad! I was busy!.

Eh I kinda agree but all humans do things that matter to us and we prioritize. At the end of the day some people are bad texters and responding isn't a priority to them. It's up to the individual how they perceive stuff like this, right?

I text my mom right now and she'll respond within five minutes. My best friend will not see any of my texts until tomorrow night at the earliest lol.

Dude, this is what I try to say. Its okay. I dont care if you prioritize other things. Especially during the holidays.

But dont act like Im crazy if I observe Im not a priority. My rule is that I try to respond to anyone texting me within 24 hours. I think thats fair.

But some people really think I was busy is a good excuse. Just say I forgot to text back at the very least. Fuck lol.

Yes, that is bad. Even if they dont intend it to be bad, it is still disrespectful in terms of their negligence.

I will not be close friends with someone like that, and it is a HUGE red flag with dating. That gives you an idea of their awful communication skills.

It happens. My depression makes it exhausting at times to talk one on one with people even if it's just through DMs or texts.

I've got PMs to send here, messages on other boards, texts to reply to. I know it seems trivial to just do it, but...sometimes it is too much if I'm in a bad place and/or life is dumping problems left and right on me.

This is why there aren't any standard excuses for not responding. Death of a loved one, major accidents, etc are obvious exceptions.

Although I think it's mostly this unless it happens quite frequently. Sometimes I read it when I'm busy but forget to respond when I'm not busy, but usually I realize the next day at the latest.

It's pretty obvious you want a response. And you want it on your timetable. That's the job of a phone call. Otherwise, you hand the response time over to the other person.

I hate to admit it, but yeah. Besides my parents, if someone calls me, I'll decline the call and then text them to see what they wanted lol

If it happens once it could be unintentional. Like they read the message, intend on replying but get distracted and then just forget about it. Happens sometimes.

If it happens all the time it's safe to say you're probably just not that high on their priority list.
