Played Red as a child and jumped straight to Gold. Is it worth playing compared to having beaten Red?

I believe it's based on if you win or lose the intro battle at Oak's lab and if you win, lose and/or skip the battle to the west of Viridian City (which I didn't know existed until after I beat Yellow.

Gary's Eevee evolves to Vapereon if you lose the lab fight and the 2nd fight, Flareon if you win one and lose the other and Jolteon if you win both.

This is actually a pretty creative way to adjust the game's difficulty without making it too obvious. If the player does well at the start, the rival gets the Eevee evolution that resists the starter Pikachu's moves. If the player does bad at the start, the rival gets the Eevee evolution that's weak to Pikachu.

It also makes sense to his attitude. If he's been beaten by Pikachu twice, he'll think of electric as being a strong type. If he beats you a few times, he'll think of it as a weak type not to worry about

I always do the Mew glitch when I play Yellow. You get Mew early on and at a low level so it's fun to raise.

It's just Pokemon Red except the wild Pokemon are slightly different, and you start with a Pikachu and get the starters over the course of the game.

I had Yellow and I definitely think it's worth playing. I'd even say it's the best gen 1 game to play. But if you're trying it after playing Red, you're essentially playing the same game. It's like a 1.2 release.
