If he's been beaten by Pikachu twice, he'll think of electric as being a strong type. It's just Pokemon Red except the wild Pokemon are slightly different, and you start with a Pikachu and get the starters over the course of the game. I had Yellow and I definitely think it's worth playing. I'd even say it's the best gen 1 game to play. But if you're trying it after playing Red, you're essentially playing the same game.
