Hope the customer files an ADA complaint(assuming her allergy is legit) they tend to look pretty harshly on that.

Agreed.
Their response is complete and utter shit.
How would they respond to someone asking what oils the kitchen uses?
Or a tomato allergy?

Just a shitty attitude all around.

What? I've never seen that policy anywhere besides fast food restaurants that have pre-made food.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Because normally when someone is allergic to something, your response wouldn't just be "the customer can remove it if they don't want it."

My ex was allergic to mushrooms, to the point where her throat would close up if she unknowingly ate some. So that meant that none of her food could come into contact with mushrooms, at all. So ignoring that kind of request is a huge liability and the owner is stupid for trying to make that joke.

Made me wonder if the food is premade. Some restaurants only have full kitchen at peak times and reheat the rest of the time.

I'm all in favor of deciding to have a no modification rule at your restaurant. If someone has an allergy, then they just can't have it. And I hate people that lie about food allergies. Hate 'em. If I owned a restaurant, every single item other than drinks would have gluten in it on principal. But it would be an advertising point. If you're one of the 10% of people claiming a gluten intolerance that actually have it, you'll have to go somewhere else, sorry.

Don't make stupid liability jokes though, now you just look like an idiot.

Its not only people with gluten intolerance people that need to avoid gluten though. People with IBS should avoid it to manage their symptoms.

I have kids with multiple allergies and intolerances. I generally dont take them out to eat, but when I do a freaking burger is generally one of the safe foods because most places let you have it plain.

The owner's response makes them look like an ass and would make me not want to eat there on principle alone.

The issue with the bun itself: I can kind of see why a restaurant would have a strict "no modification" rule from a liability perspective. Imagine, if you will, that someone orders it with no bun. Well, the kitchen is slammed and the cook just quickly slaps together the burger as normal. Maybe the waitress catches the "no bun" modifier on the ticket, the cook yanks off the buns, and tosses them in the trash before sending it back out. Seems cool, except that now that entire burger is contaminated with allergens.

Personally, I've got so many peculiarities about my food that I only order things that I can eat wholly unmodified.

I'm very picky when it comes to my order

I usually go for plain cheeseburgers but lately I've had 2 triple cheeseburgers, both plain but I use the touchscreen and customised it to include bacon.

Had 2 Double Quarter Pounders and a large fries with a large milkshake in one sitting last week.

The weird thing is, I haven't put much weight on, I haven't been 12st or over in the last 6 months or more, my weight has been below 11st 10lbs, weighed myself this morning and I was 11st 5lbs and 1/8. I keep half expecting to gain weight but haven't.

I make all sorts of accommodations all the time. When people want to do something cool, I'm happy to fulfill the requests, flex my creativity, and craft something that looks good and will taste better. When people are undecided about what to get, I'll give them suggestions on what sort of mods will make a meal really pop. I've got regulars that love me and come in for "the usual" that's a customized special I made for them.

I just really hate liars. It's a pet peeve of mine. People that drone on and on about their extremely deadly pickle allergy, if they so much as catch a whiff of one they'll go into anaphylactic shock. Yet their partner sitting next to them gets fried pickles as an appetizer, and they don't mind their fries being cooked in the same oil. Immature shitheads that waste everyone's time and out themselves as a fucking baby. I know that some people are legitimately gluten intolerant, but that's literally only 10% of people that claim it. Studies have shown this. So it sucks if you can't eat somewhere, but filtering out liars is worth it.

Would you say someone that owns and ice cream shop is a bigot if they don't have dairy free options?
