I've gotten through most of the main game before but never finished Hearts of Stone or started Blood and Wine

Just play Gwent and leave the rest of it alone.

i like the monsters

i heard the toxic build is pretty powerful (whichever that gives higher attack when have a certain toxic level).

i never really dabbled in alchemy. maybe i'll try that this time

Yeah the potions and blade oils are crazy powerful when you take the perks related to them

oh yeah something i noticed last playthrough.

the top rated guide here has quests out of order (namely once you get to Novigrad)

take a pure the bomb build with a little magic on the sub side.

shit's still hilarious after 100+ hours.

not sure what to elaborate on..

the game always seems to be criticized for its combat but a bomb build will keep the combat fun throughout the run.

if you meant the build just go for bombs and a little fire magic or whatever on the side for when bombs run out.

i've never really had a problem with the combat...

but i'm also weird

The alternate sign casting change is basically a requirement, it's so much better.

EDIT: oh, yeah that sounds useful

Hold right trigger and press a face button or the other trigger to cast all the signs instead of going into the radial menu to pick one to use.

apparently i want to turn off the new camera as well

there's a guide that suggest doing the dlc first to get the best armor or something i rather start with a genuine playthrough though

i dont think so i think you auto level

oh just pick the "start the DLC" option at the beginning. i forgot about that.

I should have done this.

Don't try and do all the quests.
I tried and it burned me out on the game, and I put it down. Keep intendeding on picking it back up, but I just don't.

I did every quest and didn't get burnt out. I see no reason to play the new version since I already 100% the game though.

poorly.

i actually don't really enjoy open world games, i need some linearity or i get lost in what i'm doing/where i'm going.

i haven't gone offroad yet except for when i absolutely have to for quests.

turn music off and enjoy the amazing ambience

no clue, and i don't have enough skill slots to equip it at the moment anyways

Invest in Witcher signs first, and sparingly in combat techniques. Figure out which class of armour you want to wear (light, medium, heavy), and buy the mutagen that enhances your ability to use that armour.

i'm currently got 3 points in Delusion, 3 points in the one that makes Quen explode, and some points in alchemy

Save the points in alchemy for later, you have a free respec potion.

Focus on signs and combat for now, then once you're in level 20 or so you can respec into Alchemy and skip over the Magikarp part of leveling it.

Then I guess I'll put points in Igni?

I like:

Armor Strip and the burning chance for Igni
Alternate Aard
Explode/Thorn/Alternate Quen (the last two occasionally)

The last tier of skills for Aard isn't worth it.

honeslty even with the Quick Casting thing i still just use Igni most of the time.

The only reason i put points in Axii is force persuasion choices

i haven't done any of the "map markers" that aren't immediately next to a road yet.

The third tier of skills, it makes it a dome instead of a push ahead.

So it hits people behind and above you.

Alt Quen lets you hold a shield.

Alt Igni is a flamethrower and it sucks.

Alt Axii is Charm Person.

ah, I knew about Alt Quen and i was gonna ignore it

Alt Quen is pretty good if you want to regen health while in battle, but there's so many health regen food and potions that it kind of loses its value towards mid game. I haven't found my free respec potion yet.
